Stripe Stops Trump Campaign Website

More technology platforms decided to stop Pres. Trump's websites after the Capitol siege on Wednesday where hundreds of Trump supporters went to the Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the results of the recent Presidential election.

Newsmax reports that financial technology company and platform Stripe will no longer process payments for the Trump campaign website. This was first reported in The Wall Street Journal, according to the people familiar with the decision of Stripe.

Stripe handles card payments for online businesses and it was reported that the move of the technology company to stop processing payment for Trump's website was made due to violations of inciting violence. This is also the main reason for other technology companies stopping Trump's online sites and pages.

It is stated in the company's user agreement that they are refusing to accept payments for "high-risk" activities, including "engages in, encourages, promotes or celebrates unlawful violence or physical harm to persons or property," according to its website.

On the other hand, Pres. Donald Trump released a video statement Wednesday night telling the rioters to go home. He described them as "special people," In a minute-long video, he said "I know your pain. I know you're hurt. We had an election that was stolen from us. It was a landslide election and everyone knows it especially the other side."

Meanwhile, it was also reported that it is not only the Trump website Stripe decided to stop but also included shutting down payments for Gab.com after a gunman killed 11 people in an attack on a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018.

Twitter Suspended Trump's Account

After the riot and Trump supporters take over the Capitol, Twitter permanently suspended Pres. Donald Trump's account on Friday, according to a published report in CNET. The social media company said that the action was made because of the "the risk of further incitement of violence."

Pres. Trump's Twitter account was first temporarily locked on Wednesday. The account has more than 88 million followers.

Twitter later blocked users from engaging with the post and flagged it with the following message: "This claim of election fraud is disputed, and this Tweet can't be replied to, Retweeted, or liked due to a risk of violence," according to a report in CBS Baltimore.

The company also stated to explain the reason for their decision. It said they are working proactively to protect the health of the public conversation occurring on the service and will take action on any content that violates the Twitter Rules with regards to the situation in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.

Twitter added, "In addition, we have been significantly restricting engagement with Tweets labeled under our Civic Integrity Policy due to the risk of violence. This means these labeled Tweets will not be able to be replied to, Retweeted, or liked."
