YouTube Suspends Trump's Account, Disabled Comments Section
YouTube, the biggest online video streaming in the world, announced on Tuesday its decision to suspend Trump's account for violating its policies.
YouTube Suspended Trump's Account
The Google-owned company announced on Tuesday night that it has decided to suspend Trump's account on YouTube, the world's biggest online video streaming site. The company said that Trump's account violated its policies leading to its automatic suspension.
According to a report in CNBC, Trump's YouTube account is suspended for at last seven days and from uploading new contents. The company also added that it also disabled its comment section. The decision was made after the riot at the Capitol.
Meanwhile, the company did not specify which among the uploaded videos in Trump's account violated its policies. However, the company said that it was the content that included comments Trump made at a press conference Tuesday morning. YouTube said the content violated one of its policies which prohibit content for inciting violence.
YouTube is following its three-strike system. During the first strike, the channel will be suspended for one week, the second strike means a two-week suspension, and the third and last strike will be the termination of the YouTube channel within 90 days.
YouTube Released Official Statement
YouTube released its official statement on Wednesday. The company said after their review they decided to remove new content uploaded to Donald J. Trump's channel for violating its policies.
They also emphasized that the decision was made in light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence.
Given the ongoing concerns about violence, we will also be indefinitely disabling comments on President Trump's channel, as we've done to other channels where there are safety concerns found in the comments section."
The company's spokesperson said that it also removed videos from the White House's YouTube account.
However, YouTube clarified that they gave a warning to the White House YouTube channel instead of a first strike.
The spokesperson said, "There has not been the same history of violative content on this channel, but should further violative content get uploaded to the channel, it would receive a strike, per our policies."
YouTube clarified as well that they would immediately suspend any channels posting new videos of false claims in violation of its policies rather than giving a warning.
Moreover, Alphabet employees called on the company's executives to take further action against the president, criticizing them for not suspending his account and reasoning he would incite further misinformation and violence, according to a report in CNBC.
Other Social Media Platforms Suspended Trump's Account
YouTube is not the first platform that suspended Trump's social media account. Both Twitter and Facebook announced they were suspending Trump's account on their respective platforms.
It can be remembered that Twitter banned Trump's account permanently on the social media site. However, Pres. Trump somehow found a way and began tweeting from the government-owned @POTUS account late Friday before it was eventually removed too.
