27-Year-Old Man Charged With Threatening to Kill President Biden
A North Carolina man has been charged with making threats to kill President Joe Biden through phone calls to the White House, according to a criminal complaint unsealed in court on Thursday. David Kyle Reeves was arrested on Feb. 5 after he called the White House switchboard several times with threats to kill Biden and others, Kiro 7 reported.
The 27-year-old suspect, who lives with his father in Gastonia, was charged with threatening the president of the United States. He appeared in court, before U.S. Magistrate Judge David C. Keesler, on Thursday morning.
Prosecutors alleged David Kyle Reeves contacted the White House switchboard multiple times by phone and made threats against Biden and others between Jan. 28 and Feb. 1. In one call, Reeves allegedly said he was going to kill everyone and chop their heads off.
"I am going to (expletive) kill you all. (Expletive) the White House. I am going to chop your heads off," Reeves said in a recorded call.

More Threats from David Kyle Reeves
Reeves also contacted the U.S. Capitol Police switchboard and communicated similar threats. He appeared to threaten to kill members of Congress in one of the calls, according to an affidavit.
David Kyle Reeves was also reported to have told the Secret Service to come pick him and bring him to the White House, "so he can punch the President in the face, sit in his chair, and stay there until he dies," WSOCTV reported.
The criminal complaint also claimed that on Feb. 1 a Secret Service agent contacted Reeves to discuss the threats. But Reeves allegedly called the Secret Service agent back several times throughout the day and repeated the threats of killing the President, the agent, and others because he owns "the planet."
David Kyle Reeves also told the Secret Service agent "that he had free speech and did nothing wrong," according to documents filed in court.
Realizing he would possibly get sentenced to a few years in prison, Reeves called the Secret Service agent again and said he would get out early because he will just read books, according to the affidavit.
The filed court documents added that Reeves said when he gets out of prison, he will call the Secret Service agent and kill him.
Judge Keesler ordered Reeves to remain in custody pending his next court date. The charge of making a threat against the U.S. president carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
David Kyle Reeves has a long list of past criminal charges, including family violence, assault on a law enforcement officer, violation of family violence order, resisting arrest, criminal trespass, and terroristic acts and threats.
Reeves' attorney, Kevin Tate, of the Federal Public Defender office for the Western District of North Carolina, told CNN that the suspect has pleaded not guilty and is now receiving appropriate mental health evaluations. The Secret Service continued to investigate the case.
David Kyle Reeves is the Second Charlotte-Area Suspect
Reeves was not the first suspect to make threats against Biden. In October, a 19-year-old man was taken into custody after he made threatening posts and conducting internet searches linked to killing Biden.
Alexander Hillel Treisman was arrested after investigators found an abandoned van at a Kannapolis bank with an AR-15 style rifle, a handgun, ammunition, and explosive materials, according to another WSOCTV report.
After investigators later searched the vehicle, they also found items such as $509,000 in cash, books about making bombs and improvised weapons, drawings of swastikas, and six more guns.
The van was towed after employees at the Fifth Third Bank on South Main Street asked the Kannapolis Police Department to pull the van. And then Treisman showed up at the bank in a car looking for the vehicle. Investigators later discovered his obsession with mass shootings, terrorism, and a post about "kill Joe Biden."
