Fauci Encourages Americans to Take Whatever COVID-19 Vaccine is Available
The interim results of the clinical trials of the COVID-19 vaccine might be your basis in choosing what vaccine to take as the moment of your inoculation comes close. With the uproar of Pfizer and their excellent interim results, you might be considering this vaccine as your only choice. However, Dr. Fauci from the White House Coronavirus Task Force noted that whatever vaccine comes available, you should take it.
Amid the crusade of the COVID-19 vaccine, as of February 26, 2021, Bloomberg noted that more than 225 million shots had been administered across 100 countries. Bloomberg adds that in the United States, 68.3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
Dr. Fauci on COVID-19 vaccine
The Hill noted that the nation's top infectious disease expert advised the American populace not to wait and idle for a specific COVID-19 vaccine to become available before they get inoculated. The Hill referenced an interview with the expert saying that people should take it once a vaccine becomes available.
East Bay Times mentioned Dr. Fauci noting that the third vaccine becoming available is good news and will help mitigate and control the pandemic. East Bay Times furthered that the people should not hold off on getting Johnson and Johnson vaccine while waiting for the roll of the supply of Pfizer and Moderna shots.
The Hill pointed out that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Emergency Use Authorization to both Pfizer and Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine one month apart, with their results of over 90 percent effectiveness against the virus. The Hill added that Fuci's comments on taking the vaccine took place as the Biden administration aims to inoculate 100 Million COVID-19 vaccine doses within the first 100 days of the term of the current president the United States.
Why do you have to take the vaccine regardless of the brand?
PBS News Hour referenced an interview of Dr. Fauci saying that the current inoculation is a race between the virus and getting the vaccines to people. Fauci stressed that the longer an individual awaits not getting vaccinated, the better chance the virus will form new variants or undergo mutation.
Moderna is the only company to develop a vaccine effective against the South African variant of COVID-19 and is ready for clinical trials.
Meanwhile, a study published in the National Centers for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) noted that RNA viruses (like SARS-CoV-2) are faster to mutate than DNA viruses. However, the study highlighted that viral mutation rates are modulated at different levels, including polymerase fidelity, sequence context, secondary template structure, and other factors.
Apart from getting the COVID-19 vaccine immediately regardless of the brand, PBS News Hour stated that Dr. Fauci has mentioned that public health officials are always concerned regarding the virus variants. Dr. Fauci also stressed the importance of abiding the public health measures such as wearing masks and social distancing.
