Les Miles Banned From Being Alone With Female LSU Students After 2013 Sexual Harassment Probe
The Louisiana State University (LSU) issued a letter of reprimand addressed to former LSU coach Les Miles, ordering him not to be alone with female students because of allegations about inappropriate behavior.
The directive comes a week after Les Miles had reached a settlement with a female student on allegations of harassment, according to an internal probe ordered by the LSU in 2013 that was released to the public on Thursday, Forbes reported. LSU hired the law firm Taylor Porter to conduct the investigation.
Allegations Against Les Miles
According to Fox 4, Les Miles, who is now the University of Kansas football coach, was accused of texting female students and making them uncomfortable.
He was also accused of taking female students to his condo, kissing at least one student, and suggesting going to a hotel with him after saying he could help her in her career.
USA Today reported that the investigators did not find the football coach having sexual relationships with any of the students. But they found that his act or behavior to be inappropriate.
Les Miles was also accused of saying that those female student employees involved in luring top recruits to the university should be attractive, blonde, and fit by the athletic department. The former coach added that existing student workers that did not meet that criteria should be given fewer hours or be fired.
After the investigation, LSU directed Miles to stop hiring female student employees to babysit, being alone with them, attending eight sessions with an attorney, and paying for it out of his own pocket.
The report noted that Miles was not fired. However, he was told that he would violate his contract if he did it again.
In a statement, the University of Kansas, where Miles is now working, said they have already spoken with him about the allegations, and they will continue to gather information.
Since the university was not aware of these allegations when Les Miles was hired in 2018 and did not have factual knowledge about the details of these allegations, they said it was not appropriate for them to comment further.
Former LSU Football Coach's Defense
Peter Ginsberg, Les Miles' attorney, told USA Today that the coach continues to deny all the allegations. Ginsberg added that Les Miles also hoped the report's release would end the "baseless, inaccurate media reports."
"As the report concludes, the allegation that Coach Miles attempted to kiss the woman was supported by no evidence and warranted no discipline," the lawyer said.
He added that they do not believe under existing law and the contract terms that there is cause to discipline or terminate the coach.
Forbes noted that as a former LSU football coach, the team enjoyed immediate success under Les Miles, paving the way to the university's winning of the 2005 SEC Western Division with a 10-1 regular-season record.
