'Father of the Bride 3' Cast News & Update: Steve Martin Signs on; Movie to Reportedly Feature Gay Couple
Steve Martin is going to be starring in "Father of the Bride 3."
According to Digital Spy, the actor will reprise his role as George Banks in a new installment of the movies. Diane Keaton played his wife Nina, and it appears she'll be returning, too.
The first two movies followed the changing relationship between father and daughter as she got married and then started her own family. The third movie is supposed to focus on his son, Matty, who was originally played by Kieran Culkin.
Banks learns that his son Matty is going to marry the son of a U.S. Navy Seal, which leaves him feeling "thunderstruck and speechless." The conservative Banks were so upset by it that Nina will kick him out of the house.
Charles Shyer, who directed the other movies and also served as a co-writer, has also supposedly signed on to work on the film.
Banks is generally not great with change.
For example, in the second "Father of the Bride," he was convinced that his new grandson hated him. And somewhere along the process, he ends up losing him.
In the first movie, he's not ready to say goodbye to his little girl. She tells him of her plans to get married after she returns from Europe. She only knew the groom-to-be for three months at that time, and her father was not happy with her decision. The wedding took a year to come together, and she was in her early 20s when it happened.
In real life, Culkin is now 31. So he's definitely still young enough to reprise his role.
He played a gay character in "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," where he continued to switch boyfriends and would occasionally steal them from Scott's sister, who was played by Anna Kendrick.
