FBI Releases Footage of Pipe Bomb Suspect Prior Capitol Riot; Suspect Still on the Loose
Law enforcement authorities at Capitol Hill are still on guard around the area after the deadly breach that took place on Jan. 6. Many of the suspects were already apprehended, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation has released new footage showing days leading to the deadly event.
The footage reportedly shows the pipe bomb suspect near the Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee offices in Washington D.C. This was the night before the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in Washington D.C., according to an ABC News Go report.
FBI said that the suspect is carrying a backpack, with pipe bombs inside, according to what investigators believe.
Steven D'Antuono, FBI's assistant director in charge of the Washington Field Office, said that these pipe bombs are viable devices that could have been detonated. It would then result in serious injury or death.
The FBI official then asked for the public's help in capturing the pipe bomb suspect.
"We need the public's help to identify the individual responsible for placing these pipe bombs to ensure they will not harm themselves or anyone else," the FBI official was quoted in a report.
Pipe Bomb Suspect
The suspect was seen on the footage standing in a residential neighborhood on South Capitol Street with the bag. The suspect shorty set it on the ground as a man walking his dog passed by.
Shortly before 8 a.m., the suspect was seen seated on a bench in front of the DNC. The first pipe bomb was placed under a bush and walked away.
At 8 a.m., the person was seen in an alley near the RNC, where the second pipe bomb was found.
The FBI said that the pipe bomb suspect was wearing a pair of Nike Air Max Speed shoes.
The explosives were made with 1x8-inch threaded galvanized pipes, a kitchen timer, and homemade black powder, according to the FBI.
D'Antuono said that they still believe there is someone who has information that they may not have realized to be important.
Officials cannot confirm if the suspect in the video is a man or a woman, adding hopes that someone in the general public will notice the person's walk and could provide a useful tip, according to a Daily Mail report.
"We know it can be a difficult decision to report information about family or friends - but this is about protecting human life," D'Antuono was quoted in a report.
A reward worth $100,000 is waiting for any person that could provide information leading to the suspect's arrest.
U.S. Capitol Hill
Meanwhile, months after the violent riot that erupted at the Capitol, the Pentagon is set to approve the extension of National Guard deployment at the establishment for two more months.
Defense officials said that there are still possible threats of violence remaining around the area, according to an Associated Press report.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is seen to give final approval to have Guardsmen continue securing the establishment at the request of Capitol Police.
Officials added that some details are being finalized.
