Fauci Warns Against Loosening COVID-19 Restrictions, Mask Mandates
More states are dropping their COVID-19 restrictions and mask mandates, such as the case in Los Angeles, wherein state officials cleared to reopen indoor dining and theaters.
Meanwhile, the nation's top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, warned against loosening COVID-19 restrictions prematurely.
Fauci added that the public needs to avoid the urge to say that everything is going great, according to The New York Times report.
"When you get a plateau at a level around 60,000 new infections per day, there's always the risk of another surge," he was quoted in a report.
He noted that the surge in cases is the thing that they really want to avoid, saying that the country is going in the right direction.
Fauci's comments were released on the same day that the lifting of the mask mandate in Texas was imposed, according to a Newsweek report.
States Dropping COVID-19 Restrictions

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that it is time to open the state of Texas 100 percent, according to an AFP News report.
There were mixed reactions following Abbott's announcement.
Meanwhile, in Houston, the majority of the people continued to wear their masks despite the new order.
Businessman Omar Abu-Shaaban said that he does not think the governor had the health of the people in mind. However, a 22-year-old resident, Kade Phillips, said that it's good for everyone to make their own choice.
Known grocery chains said that they would retain their mask orders in place.
Meanwhile, indoor dining establishments, gyms, and museums can start reopening their doors to the public in parts of Southern California.
Dr. Mark Ghaly, the state's health and human services secretary, said that opening more venues in the state is not a reason for the public to let their guards down, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis warned that eating in a restaurant's indoor dining room still has risks, and dining outdoors remain safer.
Davis cited that there are other variants in the country.
"Many of those can be more easily transmitted, and some may be causing more severe disease," Davis was quoted in a report.
Meanwhile, breweries, wineries, and distilleries that serve food will continue to abide by rules applied to restaurants.
