Miami Beach has extended its state of emergency as excited spring breakers continued to crowd the place amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Authorities have already made hundreds of arrests concerning the crowds overrunning the city. This includes the two spring breakers arrested after being accused of drugging, raping, and stealing from a woman who died later in a Miami Beach hotel, NBC News reported.

The suspects were identified as Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24, both from Greensboro, North Carolina. According to court records, the two men face charges of sexual battery, burglary, and other crimes.

The victim was 24-year-old Christine Englehardt, who was given a "green pill" and was taken back to her hotel in South Beach. Englehardt was only visiting from Pennsylvania, according to a Daily Mail report.

The two men allegedly raped Englehardt before stealing her phone, cash, and credits, which they used to party. She was then found semi-naked and dead on the bed at her hotel room on Thursday.

Investigation 

Upon looking at the obtained video surveillance footage, detectives saw the two men entering the Albion Hotel on Thursday with Englehardt and then leaving less than an hour later without the woman.

Reports said Collier fit the description of one of the two men in the footage and was found in an area crowded with spring breakers. He was wearing the same pants like the one in the video, Miami Herald reported.

Collier eventually confessed to police that he and Taylor met Englehardt at a local restaurant. It was still unclear if the victim took the pill willingly or was given to her clandestinely. Collier admitted to the police that he thought the drug they gave to Englehardt was Percocet, a powerful pain reliever.

During a bond hearing on Monday, Miami Beach Detective Luis Alsina said that they sent it to the lab, adding that they don't know if it was fentanyl or some other narcotic.

The victim was already staggering when they entered the hotel, and Taylor was trying to hold her up as they walked into the elevator, the detective said.

"The defendant was holding her from behind, holding her by the neck so she could stand," Alsina noted.

Collier claimed that they each had sex with the woman, and Taylor had to force himself at one point since she was unconscious. A police report said there was no way the victim could have consented to have sex with the defendants as she was under the influence of alcohol and narcotics.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office has yet to determine the cause of her death and doing further tests to learn if she died from an overdose from the pill.

Spring Breakers Partying

More than 1,000 people have been arrested since the start of spring break season, with around 80 guns confiscated, according to Miami Beach Police.

Police Chief Richard Clements said the chaos intensified when an unusual huge crowd of spring breakers blocked Ocean Drive and had an "impromptu street party," Associated Press reported. 

Clements said the crowd was out of control by Friday night, with one restaurant turned upside down and used chairs as weapons.

Meanwhile, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has maintained statewide no mask rules or other health restrictions, saying it's keeping the tourism economy working.
