104-Year-Old Colombian Woman Contracts, Beats COVID-19 Twice
A 104-year-old Colombian woman received a standing ovation from hospital staff after defeating COVID-19 for a second time.
The Colombian second-time survivor of the coronavirus was Carmen Hernandez, who was initially diagnosed with COVID-19 in June 2020.
Carmen Hernandez was treated in her San Jose nursing home after she tested positive with coronavirus for the first time.
In her second time contracting the virus, BBC News reported that she was immediately brought and admitted to intensive care for treatment.
Carmen Hernandez spent 21 days in the medical facility, battling against COVID-19 until she was discharged on Monday and given a standing ovation while being wheeled out of the hospital.
The Colombian woman tested positive for the coronavirus for the second time on March 8. NBC reported that Carmen Hernandez got vaccinated before her second positive result.
Centenarian COVID-19 Survivors
Carmen Hernandez is not the only centenarian who was able to defeat COVID-19.
In January, a 109-year-old New Jersey woman, Hilda Brown, has recovered from the coronavirus days before her 110th birthday, the USA Today reported.
After beating COVID-19, Brown joined the "supercentenarian club," a group of individuals with an age range of 110 or older. Her great-niece, Kristen Howe, shared that their entire family was amazed by the strength shown by their great-grandmother.
Howe noted that their family was notified in the middle of November about the possibility of Brown testing positive for COVID-19. After the confirmation, Brown was immediately moved to a quarantine floor.
Brown's great-niece also mentioned that the oxygen level of Brown dropped; that's why she was aided by supplemental oxygen for almost a month. But after a month of battling against the virus, Brown was moved back to her room, eating and able to tell her normal stories as she fully recovered from COVID-19.
Also from New Jersey, a now 108-year-old woman, Anna Del Priore, survived not only from COVID-19 but also from the Spanish Flu a century earlier.
The staff at Brighton Gardens, an assisted living facility in New Jersey where Del Priore is living, was delighted by the news of her recovery in August 2020.
Del Priore's health care coordinator at Brighton Gardens, Laura Halle, said that she shared this story with other people and could not believe that Del Priore survived. Halle also mentioned that it is really amazing to watch her journey as she can even dance at her age.
Anna Del Priore contracted the Spanish Flu at the age of six, during the influenza pandemic of 1918.
Colombia's COVID-19 Record

Colombia also reported 243 more deaths, which raised the COVID-19 death toll to 64,767.
The ministry confirmed that out of 2,578,601 individuals who were vaccinated in Colombia, 471,789 of them already got their second doses.
Colombian President Ivan Duque announced Sunday that new restrictive measures would be imposed in cities with rising COVID-19 cases.
