Senator Lindsey Graham has slammed Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm over her remarks on "electric car." Granholm issued the statement when she was asked about the Colonial Pipeline hacking incident that prompted a gas crisis on the east coast of the U.S.

Daily Wire reported that the Biden administration official appeared on a press briefing on the White House on Tuesday, or a day before President Joe Biden signed an executive order that will strengthen the cyber defenses of the U.S. and establish a review board that will analyze the hacking incidents in the country.

What Did the Biden Administration's Official Say About 'Electric Car'?

When asked about the effects of the recent ransomware attack on the Department of Energy's (DOE) efforts in moving to a renewable direction, Jennifer Granholm answered by emphasizing the use of electric cars during the fuel crisis.

She added that they are making sure their department meets the goal of President Joe Biden of "getting 100% clean electricity by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050."

"You know, if you drive an electric car, this [gas crisis] would not be affecting you," the Secretary of Energy noted in the press briefing.

Jennifer Granholm also pointed out that the Colonial Pipeline is "acting responsibly."

"Up to this point, they (Colonial Pipeline) have - they're carefully reviewing so that they're doing this (reviewing the ransomware attack) in a responsible way," said Granholm.

Lindsey Graham Hits Secretary of Engineer Jennifer Granholm

Jennifer Granholm's comments made Senator Lindsey Graham raised her eyebrows at the Biden administration official. In an interview with Fox News, the senator described Granholm's remarks as "the most dumbest thing in the world."

Graham noted that "they don't show an understanding of the problem." Graham also questioned the electric car that Granholm mentioned, saying that the power unit where the electric vehicles are plugged into would be disconnected once power companies were taken down.

"They don't understand prevention," Graham said. The senator also blasted Biden, arguing that the president could have said that the administration would prevent cyber attacks in the future.

"He should be saying... we're going to have a national strategy to upgrade cybersecurity for critical structures like financial services and energy," the senator noted.

Colonial Pipeline Opens

Colonial Pipeline shut down its operations on Friday after a ransomware attack on their computer system. CNET reported that it affected the supply of gas in parts of the east coast, making people wait for hours or more to fill their tanks.

Officials noted that there is no need to stock up on gasoline because the pipeline is expected to be back near normal at the end of the week.

Jennifer Granholm earlier acknowledged that some states might experience a gas shortage. However, the Secretary of Energy noted that there was no need to rush to the pumps.

Following the electric car comments of Jennifer Granholm, the Colonial Pipeline announced on Thursday that they have "restarted their entire pipeline system and the product delivery has commenced" to the markets they serve.
