A special grand jury was convened by Manhattan's district attorney to decide whether to indict former United States President Donald Trump, or other executives at his company, or even his organization itself.

Two individuals familiar with the development shared that the group will be deciding if Trump and his executives will be facing criminal charges or not, Washington Post reported.

According to Daily Wire, in the report of the Washington Post, the 2-year investigation of District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. to the former president and his business has reached an advanced stage. Vance believes that he has discovered evidence of a crime committed. It is not clear yet, whether the crime was committed by Trump, his executives, or by his company in general.

Moreover, the recently-convened panel will be sitting three days a week for the next six months to come up with a decision. They will also hear other matters that are not related to the case of the former president.

In addition, The special grand jury can also speak and discuss their ongoing investigation on the condition of anonymity. The convened juries are going to participate in long-term matters rather than hearing the evidence of crimes charged on a daily basis.

Furthermore, the investigation of Vance has centered around whether the value of the properties of the Trump Organization was manipulated in a way that defrauded banks and insurance companies. The investigation also checked whether the tax benefits of the company were illegally obtained by undervaluing the properties.

Meanwhile, the Post also mentioned that it is not confirmed yet if the grand jury will be asked to consider returning any indictments. Prosecutors handling cases such as this one can choose to present charges for the grand jury to consider or not. The grand jury strategy of the prosecutor is a closely kept secret move and can be subjected to change.

Launching Additional Investigation

The New York Democrat Attorney General Letitia James stated last week that a criminal investigation into the Trump Organization has been launched by her office. She also added that she was working with Vance in the process.

Also, the office of James mentioned in a statement they have informed the Trump Organization regarding the development in their investigation. They have stated that the investigation is no longer civil in nature. The office added that they are currently investigating the organization in a criminal capacity together with Manhattan's District Attorney.

On the other hand, former President Trump responded to the news last week and stated that it is a corrupt investigation as they are desperate in search of a crime.

Trump also shared that James told him that once she will be elected, she would use her office to look into every aspect of the real estate dealings of Trump. The former president also mentioned that James has her eyes on Trump Tower ever since. Trump stated that James said to him that she will sue him and to wait for the time if she will be in the Attorney General's office.
