Bill de Blasio placed a friendly wager against Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and lost.

Not only was his team not able to secure the Stanley Cup, but de Blasio had to go on national TV and accept defeat. On Monday night's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" de Blasio wore a black "I (heart) LA" shirt and joined the television host via satellite from the ABC studios in Times Square. Meanwhile, Garcetti was sitting in the LA studios, the Huffington Post noted.

"Jimmy, I always wanted to meet you but not like this man," he said. "We New Yorkers honor our bets, but I don't have that great a singing voice."

The mayor sang a verse and the chorus of "I Love LA," but he was at least in good company. Ten members of the New York City's 52nd Street Project student chorus joined him in the song.

Kimmel joked that de Blasio looked like a counselor "at the worst camp ever."

"Jimmy, this is a hostage situation," de Blasio said.

It seemed the two mayors still wanted to compete just a little, as de Blasio treated the Los Angeles audience with hot dogs from Gray's Papayas. Garcetti, on the other hand, brought their favorite: Pink's Hot Dogs.

"I'm going to stick with Pink's," Garcetti said. "They make those Gray's Papaya hot dogs taste like a steaming bag of New York garbage."

Garcetti also made news for cursing when the Los Angeles Kings celebrated winning its second championship in three years.

"There are two rules in politics," he said. "They say never ever be pictured with a drink in your hand. And never ever swear. But this is a big f*cking day. Way to go, guys."
