Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had announced the birth of their second child, naming their daughter after Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry's mother Princess Diana.

The announcement had been issued through a statement, saying that Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor and Markle are both healthy and well, and they are settling in at home, according to a CBS News report.

Lilibet was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, weighing seven lbs., 11 ounces, according to the press secretary.

The statement added that their daughter is named after Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Meanwhile, her middle name Diana was picked to honor Princess Diana.

The couple also has a two-year-old son, Archie. They wished the public warm wishes and prayers as they cherish this time as a family.

Greetings From the Royal Family

Harry's brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law, Catherine, had released a statement Sunday afternoon.

The two said that they are delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. They also congratulated Harry, Meghan, and Archie.

Prince Charles had also released a statement, wishing them well during this time.

Prince Harry's cousin, Princess Eugenie, had also publicly congratulated the family on the arrival of their daughter. The princess congratulated the family and said they could not be happier for them, according to a Town and Country Mag report.

Eugenie wrote on her Instagram Stories, posting a picture of Harry and Markle used to announce their pregnancy months ago.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had also sent congratulations to the couple, according to a BBC News report.

Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer also welcomed the announcement of the birth of Lilibet Diana.

Story Behind Lilibet Diana's Name

The Queen's family nickname was Lilibet. It started when the Queen was just a toddler and could not pronounce her name properly.

Her grandfather, King George V, would call her Lilibet, imitating her own tries to say her name. She then became Lilibet for her family starting there.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and late husband of the Queen, had also called her by the nickname.

Meanwhile, baby Lili is not the only one to have Diana and Elizabeth as part of her name.

Princess Charlotte also carries Diana and Elizabeth in her name. She is the daughter of William and Catherine.

Duncan Larcombe, a former royal editor at the Sun, said the name was "the most royal name you could give."

Before baby Lili, Markle had revealed that she had a miscarriage several months earlier. She said that it was almost "unbearable grief" in her personal article for the New York Times.

Lilibet is the eighth in the line of the succession for the throne. Meanwhile, the Sussex couple's children do not have titles like prince or princess as only the grandchildren of the monarch have those titles.

However, Queen Elizabeth made an exception for William's children as they are in the direct line of succession.
