The mother of a Florida teen charged with first-degree murder for killing Tristyn Bailey has also been arrested for tampering with evidence, according to the prosecutors.

Crystal Smith, the mother of Aiden Fucci, was arrested on Saturday after authorities claimed that she tried to scrub the girl's blood from her son's jeans, the Insider reported.

Smith was present when authorities had interviewed her son after Tristyn Bailey went missing on May 9. The Florida teen's mom was captured on surveillance video washing what appeared to be his son's jeans in the bathroom sink.

The jeans and the sink were tested and were found to be positive for blood, according to the arrest warrant. State Attorney R.J. Larizza said that tampering with evidence is also meddling with justice, adding that it cannot be excused or tolerated.

St. Johns County Sheriff Robert A. Hardwick noted that Crystal Smith will be held responsible for her role in the case. Hardwick added that justice will be served for Tristyn Bailey and her family.

Missing Florida Cheerleader Tristyn Bailey

Tristyn Bailey was found dead less than a day after she was reported missing by her family, according to a People report.

Her body was found in a remote wooded area in St. Johns County by a resident after authorities released a missing person alert.

Aiden Fucci, the Florida teen suspect, was arrested in connection to Bailey's death. Fauci was reported to attend Patriot Oaks Academy with Bailey. However, the relationship between the two has not yet been established.

The state's attorney said that the decision to upgrade from second-degree murder to first-degree murder came after more details about the case had surfaced.

Tristyn Bailey was stabbed 114 times and at least 49 wounds were inflected on her hands, arm, and head, all were defensive in nature. Aiden Fucci had allegedly told friends days before the murder took place that he planned to kill someone.

Larizza said that Fucci did not specify who he was planning to kill. However, he hinted that he was going to do it by taking them into the woods and stabbing them, according to another People report.

Aiden Fucci, 14, will be tried as an adult in the stabbing death of the 13-year-old cheerleader. Larizza said that it brings him no pleasure to charge the Florida teen as an adult with first-degree murder.

However, he noted that the executive team, including him, had reviewed the facts and circumstances, NBC News reported. Larizza said that premeditation can be inferred from the number of stab wounds found on Bailey's body.

Aiden Fucci had posted a selfie to a social media platform on May 9 while flashing a peace sign, while he was at the back of a police vehicle. He captioned that selfie by asking if anybody has seen the victim lately.

Meanwhile, the Bailey family had praised the work of the sheriff's office and the district attorney's office for the developments.
