A week after his withdrawal from the Olympic campaign of the Australian Boomers, Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons caught the public's eye once again after going public with his girlfriend, Maya Jama.

Wimbledon Makes Sense

The Aussie NBA star Simmons and the UK TV star Jama were watching the match between Novak Djokovic and Cristian Garin on Centre Court when the media captured them doing some public displays of affection that seemingly confirms their relationship.

According to Daily Mail, the 26-year-old TV and radio presenter was first rumored to be linked to the Aussie NBA star, Ben Simmons, when she was seen on a night out on Saturday, June 26, at a restaurant Sexy Fish in London. She was the first to leave the venue, closely followed by Simmons a few moments later.

The 24-year-old guard from Australia, Ben Simmons, was eliminated from the NBA Playoffs last month after playing the post-season to forget for the Sixers. Simmons was questioned about his consistency when he displayed poor performance against the 8th-seeded Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the postseason, Fox Sports reported.

Trade rumors ran wild right away for the Aussie after they were defeated by the underdog in the playoffs. Simmons was widely criticized after the Atlanta Hawks erased the Philadelphia 76ers from the playoff picture in Game 7 at home.

After his poor display in the playoffs, the 24-year-old told the Australian basketball team Boomers that he would not be representing them in Tokyo. Simmons averaged 11.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 8.8 assists in the playoffs; but as a star in the league, he was expected more in his production.

Basketball Australia released a statement mentioning that Simmons, indicated to Boomers' Coach Goorjian that he required this upcoming period of time to himself in focusing on his individual skill development. Simmons also wished the team success in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Also, Boomers head coach Brian Goorjian said that he had spoken with Simmons and stated that the Boomers wanted him on their team. However, Goorjian said that they supported the decision of Simmons in his development, but Simmons made it clear that joining the team is what he wanted in the future.

Angry Aussies Online

The appearance of Simmons at Wimbledon while his Aussie teammates were preparing for Tokyo raised the eyebrows of basketball fans, especially his fellow Australians. Simmons' presence at Wimbledon with Maya Jama drew heavy criticism from outraged fans.

A fan posted online that the decision of Ben Simmons of not playing for their national team under the guise of NBA off season improvement and then being seen at Wimbledon is a kick in the guts of Australians. Other fans even called Simmons a traitor to the motherland and a coward.

While others questioned how the off season is going to be different to previous off seasons where Ben's 'skill development' has led to absolutely nothing. The user then mentioned the beach photos that Simmons had from the Bahamas.
