U.S. President Joe Biden had mentioned the "door-to-door" approach as part of the COVID vaccination efforts to convince Americans to get vaccinated, which prompted criticisms from social media.

Biden said that they need to go to the community by community, neighborhood by neighborhood, and oftentimes door to door to help the remaining unvaccinated people protected from the virus, according to The Daily Wire report.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki had also mentioned the said approach during her press briefing.

Psaki said that the president will outline five areas his team is focused on to get more Americans vaccinated, citing the door-to-door outreach to get the remaining unvaccinated population inoculated.

Door-to-Door Approach

Rep. Dan Crenshaw took on Twitter to voice out his sentiments, saying that not to knock on his door as they're not his parents. He added that "you're the government."

Crenshaw went on to say to make the vaccine available and let people be free to choose.

Country star John Rich had also commented on the said approach the Biden administration had announced.

He said that if anyone will be knocking on his door, he will invite them in and tell them about Jesus. Rich added that he will be making them listen to Ronald Reagan's speeches and have a full reading of the Constitution.

Actor James Woods also took on Twitter to ask the question if they will be wearing armbands.

The effort would involve the Department of Health and Human Services' existing COVID-19 Community Corps program, according to an Independent report.

One White House official said they used the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's data and targeted areas with low vaccination rates and knocked on every door there.

The official said that they saw movement in states where they imposed the said approach. These areas include Alabama, Florida, Texas, and Georgia.

Biden Administration: Vaccination Goal

The message of the new approach came after Biden fell short of his July 4 vaccination goal to reach 70 percent of the U.S. adults with at least one dose of their COVID vaccine. The current figure currently stands at over 67 percent, according to a U.S. News report.

Biden officials were earlier asked if they would meet their vaccination goal. White House COVID coordinator Jeff Zients did not directly answer during a press conference.

Zients instead said that they are going to achieve the 70 percent and will continue to push beyond the said threshold, according to another U.S. News report.

Biden urged more people to get the vaccine amid the spread of the highly transmissible Delta variant, which makes up about 25 percent of new COVID cases in the U.S.

The Delta variant is also seen to become the dominant strain in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, warned that people should not misinterpret that a city or state opening up meaning they are done.

Fauci said that they are going to push the vaccination efforts beyond the Fourth of July to get as many people vaccinated as they possibly can.
