Despite an unbelievable Game 2 performance from Giannis Antetkounmpo, who dropped 42 points, the Phoenix Suns handled business at home against the Milwaukee Bucks, sinking them at 2-0 hole. However, it was not the highlight of Game 2 as Jeff Van Gundy stole the spotlight during the broadcast.

Former NBA coach and ESPN commentator Jeff Van Gundy caught flak on social media for his remark on Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker on Thursday night.

With 3:32 remaining in the third period, Suns' guard Devin Booker, whose mother is a Mexican-American and Puerto Rican and his father, a former NBA player, is African-American, missed a jumper.

However, Booker followed his shot and put the ball back in the hoop to put the Suns back up 10 points and put a double-digit lead back against the Bucks.

According to Fox News, the sharp play prompted the odd remark from Jeff Van Gundy.

"He's got an edge to him. He looks like a choir boy, but he plays like... a hoodlum," Van Gundy uttered.

Reactions Over 'Hoodlum Comment'

The comment prompted a laugh from his co-host Mark Jackson during the broadcast.

Even current ESPN NFL analyst, Ryan Clark, caught Van Gundy's comment during the broadcast. Just like Clark, many NBA fans were shocked about the odd remark. The former NFL defensive back wrote in his social media account that the remark was "certainly code." Clark posted, "Van Gundy just called D Book light skinned. 'He looks like a choir boy'. That was certainly code."

Other Booker fans on social media also warned Jeff Van Gundy would be cooked for that hoodlum comment as soon as the clock ran out in the 4th. Some fans also asked Van Gundy what his comment meant. Other fans slammed Van Gundy for doing no favors for ESPN's image of diversity.

Meanwhile, Fox News requested ESPN to comment about Jeff Van Gundy's remarks, but they didn't immediately respond.

Other Van Gundy's Odd Remarks

In the past, Van Gundy has drawn some anger over questionable remarks. The most recent also came during the Western Conference Finals series between the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Clippers.

In one of the games in the series, during the fourth quarter with more than 4 minutes remaining, Clippers star Paul George took a slap to the face from Suns forward Jae Crowder. George went down seemingly in pain from getting hit across the face during the action. The referees stopped play to review.

Despite referees doing the necessary review since there was a contact above the shoulder, Van Gundy strongly disagreed that it was a flagrant foul. He even went further into a tirade.

Van Gundy said, "I'm sick of the sissification of the game. That's not a flagrant foul. He contested. He fouled him. Shoot your two free throws."
