A Delta Air Lines passenger was arrested and was forced off a flight after refusing to wear a face mask and spitting at other passengers.

Adelaide Schrowang, 23, was escorted off the Delta Air Lines plane at Southwest Florida International Airport when the captain ordered her to be removed from the said flight, Daily Mail reported.

The Florida woman's act was the latest incident of bad behavior on planes. The Federal Aviation Administration said that airlines have already reported more than 3,000 incidents involving unruly passengers since January 1.

The Delta Air Lines crew said that Adelaide Schrowang was disruptive as the plane sat at the gate. They noted that the Delta Air Lines passenger refused to wear a face mask, then argued with flight attendants, and spit on other passengers, which has been caught on camera.

Florida Woman Removed From Delta Air Lines Flight

The captain had ordered that the Florida woman be removed from the Delta Air Lines flight, but she refused to leave her seat.

The Delta Air Lines passenger started shouting at airport police officers as she refused to leave the plane. Police said they restrained her, handcuffed her, and took her off the plane, KKTV reported.

During her trip to the Lee County Jail, the Florida woman continued to be disruptive, even during her booking process. Adelaide Schrowang was arrested and charged with resisting an officer, trespassing, and interference with aircraft operations, with a $65,000 bond.

One officer stated in a report that the Delta Air Lines passenger was exhibiting behaviors of someone under the influence of an unknown narcotic due to her uncontrollable emotions and inability to reason, News-Press reported.

Airline Mask Mandate

The Transportation Security Administration confirmed in April that it would be extending its mask mandate until September 13. The mask mandate requires all passengers to wear a mask on planes and airports, Newsweek reported.

Darby LaJoye, the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the TSA Administrator, earlier said in a statement that the federal mask requirement in the transportation system seeks to reduce the spread of COVID infections on public transportation.

LaJoye noted at the time that wearing masks will remain an important tool when it comes to curbing the rise of infections.

He said they would continue to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to evaluate the need for the directives.

This was not the first time that airport staff and authorities had faced disruption from passengers after refusing to wear a mask.

On July 5, an American Airlines flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to the Bahamas was canceled when around 30 high-school students refused to wear masks.

American Airlines spokesperson Andrew Trull said the students became disruptive and refused to follow crew member instructions while onboard.

Trull noted that they expect their customers to follow the airline's policies when they choose to fly with them. He said they would take action if passengers are not compliant with their flight rules.
