Richard Sherman Under Investigation for DUI and Hit and Run
At around 11:26 p.m. on Tuesday, the King County Sheriff's Office informed the Redmond Police that the San Francisco 49ers player was possibly heading to Redmond.
Washington State Patrol confirmed that Sherman was placed under investigation for DUI and hit and run following a one-car collision at a construction zone off-ramp that happened at around one in the morning.
TMZ Sports reported that the NFL star's car was severely damaged after colliding with a barrier in the said area. Sherman reportedly abandoned the vehicle at a local parking lot at the exit.
Sergeant Darren Wright from the Washington State Patrol noted that their agency acquired a warrant to test Sherman's blood. However, Wright emphasized that the result of the blood test might not be known for "many months" due to a backlog in testing.
San Francisco 49ers' Richard Sherman Arrested for Burglary Domestic Violence
The NFL star was arrested by the authorities for burglary domestic violence on Wednesday when he tried to enter a home of his wife's parents, where he does not live, SB Nation reported.
A spokesperson from Redmond Police confirmed that officers responded to a residence in the area after they received a call from the occupants of the home who claimed that a family member who did not live with them tried to break in. New York Post reported that Sherman also damaged a door while trying to force his entry into his in-laws' home.
Furthermore, New York Post mentioned a publicized 911 call from Sherman's wife, Ashley Moss, saying that Sherman became aggressive with her uncle after drinking two bottles of hard alcohol. The 911 call also revealed that there were no weapons involved, but the NFL star allegedly threatened to kill himself and texted people saying that he was going to hang himself.
Police alleged that Sherman was uncooperative and combative while they were interrogating him. Redmond public information officer James Perry noted that a K-9 police dog was deployed and assisted in controlling Sherman.
"I believe there was some precautionary treatment after being contracted by the dog. I have to believe any injuries were very minor," Perry said.
Meanwhile, Darell Lowe, Redmond police chief, explains that the domestic violence component of Sherman's charge is because of his relationship with his wife's parents and not necessarily because he physically assaulted a significant other.
The NFL star's wife, Ashley Moss, underscored in an interview that nobody was hurt in the incident.
"At this time we're going to make no statements, except he didn't hurt anybody," Moss said, adding that what happened was out of his husband's character.
Perry echoed Moss' statement saying that nobody in the house was injured in any way. The public information officer also noted that he was not sure if Sherman made it inside the house.
NFL star Richard Sherman was booked to King County Correctional Facility. SB Nation noted that he can't be formally charged until he appears before a judge that is scheduled on Thursday afternoon.
