President Joe Biden Optimistic at the Possibility of Vaccination for Kids Under 12
During a televised town hall in Cincinnati Wednesday, United States President Joe Biden expressed optimism regarding the possible COVID-19 vaccinations of young American kids.
In his message, Biden stated that American children under the age of 12 would soon become eligible for COVID-19 inoculations, but he clarified that it needs approval from experts first. Biden also urged unvaccinated Americans to take the "gigantically important" step of getting their shots as another virus variant threatens the U.S.
According to The Guardian, Biden stated Wednesday that children under 12, who are currently ineligible for the three coronavirus vaccines available in the country, could possibly get their shots by August or later in the fall.
Moreover, an FDA official stated last week that the COVID-19 vaccine approval for younger children could come by midwinter, NBC News reported. The News agency reported that Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech both launched their COVID-19 vaccine trials for kids under 12 in March, and the pharmaceutical companies expected the results to come out in the fall.
In addition, Biden stated at the town hall that the vaccine makers did not promise any specific date to him, but he was able to ask some scientists regarding the process. Biden added that the vaccines would be getting their final approval by the time that the school year would be about to start or maybe within the months from August to October.
However, the U.S. president clarified that the ultimate decision lies with officials at the FDA and CDC. Biden shared that he did not tell any of the scientists working for the U.S. what they should do. He stated that he did not interfere, especially in the scientific decisions.
Meanwhile, Biden said that the CDC would probably recommend every American kid ages 12 under that they should probably wear their masks in school, especially that they were not vaccinated.
Based on the current CDC's recommendation, masks should be worn indoors by all individuals (age two and older) who are not fully vaccinated.

Possible COVID-19 Surge
Based on the data from Johns Hopkins University, over the past two weeks, COVID-19 cases have nearly tripled in the U.S. In the span of seven days, the average for daily new cases rose to more than 37,000 on Tuesday. The numbers were higher compared to the less than 13,700 on July 6. CDC said that Only 56.2% of Americans have gotten at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
On the other hand, President Joe Biden also expressed his frustration during the town hall. Biden stated that many Americans who were eligible for vaccines are not getting them. The U.S. President stated that the country was still under a pandemic, and for those who haven't gotten the vaccination, they thought that they just made a simple decision. Biden added that if an individual would be vaccinated, they are not going to be hospitalized and not going to be in the ICU, or even not die in these times of global health crisis.
