'The Shield' Actor Michael Jace Pleads Not Guilty to Murdering Wife
Michael Jace pled not guilty to murdering his wife, April Jace, on Wednesday afternoon.
He was told that he would not have any contact with his children, something he didn't object to, notes the New York Daily News.
If he makes bail, he is to stay at least 100 yards away from his two boys.
"Mr. Jace is constantly thinking about the well-being of his children," said Jace's lawyer Jason O. Sias. "Everything is about his concern for his children."
His preliminary hearing will take place Aug. 1.
Jace was arrested on May 19 and charged with murder three days later.
His wife was found dead from gunshot wounds in their Los Angeles home. "The Shield" actor called the police and said he had fired on his wife. He called his father-in-law and told him what happened and asked him to pick up the children.
"My son-in-law called me and texted me and said come get the kids because he shot April, our daughter," said a male voice on a 911 call to the Los Angeles Fire Department. "We're on the 405 (freeway) headed there now from Long Beach. We're a ways out yet. Godspeed, please."
The 911 phone call released was not the one that Jace himself placed after the incident.
His son's are living with April's side of the family.
"We're tight," said Carlo Laune, April's older brother. "The kids know grandma really super well. They're with blood family -- relatives with children who have known the boys since they were children. They're loved and just playing like little kids."
Laune said his sister was trying to make it work with Jace. It's been reported that the two were having financial issues beforehand.
"He shot her," he said. "She's dead. I want him punished to the full extent of the law. I don't like hating people, but you can only imagine my thoughts and feelings toward a person who would do that to an unarmed female, the mother of his own kids. It doesn't even compute."
