Samsung's unveiling of the Galaxy Note 3 is soon upon us, with the Unpacked event scheduled for Sept. 4, just before the IFA electronics conference in Berlin. There are plenty of rumors about what to expect, so let's take a look at some of the most important points.

Perhaps the most excitement development may just be the expectation of a smartwatch reveal during Unpacked. Sources close to the situation say that Samsung plans on debuting its Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which will be able to act as an accessory to the Note 3. So far, there has been plenty of optimism about this redefinition of the wrist.

"It will carve a niche for sure as this is an initial product in the market," said Chung Chang Won, an analyst at Nomura Holdings Inc. "Wearable devices could be one of the trends in the smartphone market, but I'm not sure yet whether watches or glasses will set the trend."

Whether the Galaxy Gear will be introduced Sept. 4 has not been confirmed by the folks at Samsung, so don't bank on anything just yet. We do have an excellent idea about what to expect in terms of functionality with the Note 3, however. Below is a list of specs generally accepted by the Android community to be available on the Note III:

-Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 2.3Ghz processor (the eight-core Exynos 5 Octa will likely only be used in overseas markets without 4G LTE coverage)
-5.7-inch FHD AMOLED display
-3GB RAM
-13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS)
-150Mbps LTE-Advanced support
-3450mAh battery

Among other things to consider, that 3450Ah battery will be the biggest one yet for the Note franchise, so expect unparalleled longevity in the Note 3. The 5.7-inch AMOLED display is a little bit smaller than first rumored (many were thinking it could get as big as 6.3 inches), but it's still a formidable screen size.

And how about the most important question: just when will we get our hands on this device? Many have projected a release later in the fall, but with the next generation of the iPhone expected for September, it's possible that we could see Samsung move up to compete for customers.

"More important to consider is just how important the U.S. market is to Samsung, especially this year with all of the Galaxy Note competitors springing to the surface. Samsung cannot afford to launch as late it did with the Galaxy Note 2 and with the Galaxy S4 as evidence, we don't expect it to. Instead, look for the Galaxy Note 3 to arrive much earlier than late October, or late November in the United States," predicts gottabemobile.com.
