Lady Gaga Instagram & PETA Controversy: 'Applause' Star Targeted by Animal Rights Group After Dressing Pet Dog [Photos]
Lady Gaga stirs yet another animal rights controversy after dressing up her pet dog. The "Born This Way" singer is now being targeted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
The 28-year-old pop star took to her Instagram account on Thursday, June 19 to share a series of photos of her black French Bulldog Asia, the pet she adopted two months ago. Very well known for her extravagant and bizarre style, Gaga decided to drape her four-legged companion in heavy-looking jewelry as evident in the images. "I don't have time for this moms," she wrote the caption following one of the snapshots, which shows a pair of clip-on earrings being fastened on Asia's soft ears.
As a result, the "Just Dance" hitmaker's puppy Instagram pictures immediately caught PETA's attention, and the senior vice president of the cruelty investigations, Daphna Nachminovitch, spoke out to condemn her thoughtless fashion decision. "Lady Gaga may choose to decorate herself with elaborate and even uncomfortable outfits, but Asia doesn't get to make that choice," she told Radar Online. "Although it seems pretty clear that Lady Gaga loves Asia, we think Asia -- and all dogs -- are adorable without all the added flair and that the best accessories for any dog is a comfortable, secure, well-fitting harness, which is perfect for long walks together."
This is certainly not the first time Lady Gaga has angered the animal rights activist organization, as she was first criticized by PETA back in 2010, when she wore a shocking, outlandish dress entirely made out of meat at the MTV Video Music Awards. PETA also attacked her two years later, saying she has "no heart" for wearing a scarf with a fox head hanging on the end, as well as a pink fur jacket.
