From 1989-1993 "Saved by the Bell" was the hottest show on the tube. Now NBC's feel good, fun loving sitcom is getting its own movie.

But don't get too excited now... It's not quite what you think.

Instead of featuring the cast members as adults, or re-imagining Bayside High for the 21st century, a la the "21 Jump Street" reboot, this version of "Saved by the Bell" is based on a former cast member's tell-all book.

Dustin Diamond, 37, perhaps better known as Samuel "Screech" Powers, put out a book that was largely written by a ghostwriter, called "Behind the Bell." The unauthorized account supposedly details the shocking and sordid drug abuse and wild sexual encounters that took place when the cameras weren't rolling.

And here's another letdown for fans of the original show: "The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" will be premiering on the Lifetime network this fall. It's not even a real movie for crying out loud!

So what can "Saved" fans -- or anyone else with a bad habit of watching ridiculous made-for-TV movies -- look forward to seeing?

Like we said above, Diamond's book is full of crazy tales, but one of the more outrageous incidents he wrote about is his hot-and-heavy sexual encounter with Linda Mancuso. That name may not ring a bell for you, but Mancuso was an NBC executive at the time and 18 years older than Diamond. Maybe that will make the cut?

If not, cast member three-ways could be taking up a lot of screen time. And that makes us wonder if Mark-Paul Gosselaar was more of a ladies man than current Extra reporter Mario Lopez.

Because the book was ghostwritten, Diamond has gone on record saying that a ton of the book is flat out falsified. He also regrets putting out the book, saying that "Behind the Bell" publisher Transit "manipulated" him.

"The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story" airs Monday, Sept. 1 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
