50 Cent & Carmelo Anthony Launch SMS Audio Headphones: Rapper-Athlete Duo Looks to Replicate Success of Beats by Dre
"50 Cent" Curtis James Jackson and Carmelo Anthony launched an SMS Audio product line Thursday night in an invite-only event in Manhattan. This was the first time the rapper and the New York Knicks basketball player have teamed up to present their athletic collection.
SMS President Brian Nohe revealed the details about their new product: Apart from being waterproof, the new audio sports line is built to withstand rough weather.
The commercial for the SMS Sports Collection was shown to all invited guests. It featured Carmelo along with the song "Winners Circle," by 50 Cent. The new product line is geared toward people participating in athletic activity.
According to Nohe, the biometric airbud was created in cooperation with Intel and will be launched by October. The product represents the company's first attempt to enter into the health and fitness category, thereby extending its catalog of wireless speakers, headphones and accessories.
Nohe added that SMS can create products that can compete with older, more established brands. Worldwide, 18 distributors carry the SMS brand. The company's products are also sold online on Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy and, most recently, Nordstrom.
Carmelo and 50 Cent went up to the stage before the event ended and conveyed both their enthusiasm and appreciation for the new SMS Audio Sports line. Carmelo stated that it was not a competition against the established audio brands. He said, "There will only be massive growth from here. You better jump on the bandwagon early."
All of the brand's latest features were used to adorn the event. Several sports models were present, allowing guests to look at the new product. The event was full of products from the new sports line, which has pink, blue and green headphones.
