Anthony Davis Leaves Los Angeles Lakers Game vs. Utah Jazz Early: Here's Why
Anthony Davis left the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the Utah Jazz Wednesday after suffering from an apparent ankle injury during the second quarter.
Davis was taken outside the court, but he refused to be put on a stretcher. The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a lot of injury problems this season, and that trend continued on Wednesday night.
According to Lakers sideline reporter Mike Trudell, X-rays done on his ankle revealed negative, and Davis will receive treatment over the All-Star break and be re-evaluated when the team gets back. He has officially been diagnosed with a sprain.
The injury occurred when Davis jumped to snag a pass in the paint and landed awkwardly. CBS Sports reported that he immediately fell to the floor, grabbed his ankle, and howled in pain like it was a serious injury.
A stretcher was sent out to the floor, but the Lakers big man refused to use it. He was eventually helped back to the locker room by his teammates Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan since he was unable to put any weight on his ankle.
With 3:00 remaining in the second quarter, Lakers called timeout, and Stanley Johnson subbed in. Davis had a great game before the injury occurred, having 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in 17 minutes of action in the first half.
After Davis left the games, LeBron James took over, and the Lakers won that much-needed win, 106-101.

Lakers' Multiple Injuries Over Past Seasons Include Anthony Davis
The Los Angeles Lakers have been snake-bit the past two seasons in terms of health. Both Anthony Davis and LeBron James have lost significant time due to multiple injuries throughout that period.
Last season, James suffered a severe ankle sprain that forced him to miss several weeks and hampered him in the playoffs.
After he was sidelined for roughly two months with a calf strain, Davis suffered a groin injury in Laker's first-round series against the Phoenix Suns last year, which single-handedly crushed the team's chances.
Fortunately, the All-Star break is nearing, giving Anthony Davis a chance to recover from his current ailment.
Los Angeles Lakers Place 9th in West
Anthony Davis returned after missing 17 games earlier in the season due to an MCL sprain and looked as if he had not missed a beat. He was averaging 25.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 58.8 percent shooting from the field in the eight games leading up to Wednesday's game.
Wednesday marked the 20th game that Davis, LeBron James, and Russell Westbrook were all available together across the team's first 58 games of the season.
Injuries have been the narrative for the Lakers, who have one of the toughest remaining schedules in the NBA, as they are never truly getting a run this season of full health, even without Kendrick Nunn's absence.
The Lakers are in the ninth spot in the Western Conference with a 27-31 record after the game against Utah, which was not an ideal position for a team that started the season with championship aspirations.
