Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Ignores U.S. Pres. Joe Biden's Request for National Guard Troops at State of the Union
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced his choice not to send National Guard troops to Washington during U.S. President Joe Biden's State of the Union speech.
DeSantis noted that the Biden administration has requested the assistance of State National Guards last week, but he has rejected the request, according to a Florida Politics report.
The Republican governor did not further detail the request for the National Guard troops during the president's speech.
In addition, DeSantis did not cite any specific reason for his refusal. However, his spokeswoman retweeted some outsiders lauding the governor's move.
Rep. Thomas Massie said that DeSantis' decision "is the way." He then went on to say "shame on any governor" that participates in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's and Biden's "political misuse of the National Guard," according to a Washington Times report.
Florida journalist Brendon Leslie then said that "America's Governor" will not be joining "Brandon's regime."

However, officials are not concerned about serious security issues with the possible protests.
Officials are also preparing for the State of the Union address, which is designated as a "national special security event," according to an Associated Press News report.
The U.S. Secret Service is the lead management of the event, with police in the nation's capital mobilizing additional officers and putting the department's civil disturbance unit on alert for at least the next week.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger said on Sunday that fencing is being installed around Capitol grounds "out of an abundance of caution."
Manger said in a statement that a plan has been approved to put up the inner-perimeter fence around the Capitol building for the State of the Union speech, according to a Daily Mail report.
He added that he has asked for assistance from D.C. National Guard, with some of the streets around the four-acre campus, have been closed.
Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton said she will ensure the fencing comes down as soon as possible to restore freedom of movement for residents and the general public.

The top issues expected to be discussed in Biden's address are his response to concerns about rising inflation and fatigue about the pandemic, according to an NPR report.
Biden is also seen to talk about the steps his administration has taken to threaten Russia's financial stability.
In addition, he was reported to talk about Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who is his pick to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
Jackson is the first Black woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court.
The entire congressional body has been invited to attend, while guest attendance will remain prohibited due to COVID safety protocol.
