Americans are expected to see an uptick in gas prices across the nation amid the Russia-Ukraine crisis, with the national average for a gallon of regular gas in the United States reaching $3.65.

Tom Kloza, an energy analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, said that the national average for gas will almost certainly hit past $4 a gallon this month, according to a CNET News report.

Goldman Sachs warned that Brent Crude is likely to go as high as $115 a barrel in March.

DTN senior market analyst Troy Vincent said that in a worst-case scenario crude oil goes up to $130 a barrel or even higher with Russian gas and oil cut from the global market.

Gas Prices in California

California is seen to have the highest average gas prices, reaching $4.80 per gallon. This is above the current highest ever average gas price across the nation of $4.11 in July 2008.

Meanwhile, Hawaii and Nevada have average gas prices at $4.52 and Nevada at $4.02 respectively, according to a CBS News report.

Oil and refined products analyst Patrick De Haan tweeted about gas prices in California.

De Haan noted that average gas prices in San Franciso are currently at $4.92 while the average gas price in Los Angeles is at $4.88. Oakland is at $4.86. San Jose has their average gas prices at $4.85, while San Diego is at $4.84.

The oil and refined products analyst noted that the gas prices in California can be reflected in the following weeks.

Kloza projected that the U.S. average gas price in 2008, which was at $4.11 will be broken in the next few months.

Vincent noted that if the crude went high in 2022, it is possible to reach $6.50 or even $7 a gallon.

Ben Valdez, a part-time Uber driver in Los Angeles, California, noted that he has reduced his work hours to only when surge pricing is available as prices in the area have reached about $5 a gallon.

Valdez noted that he started seeing less and less reason to drive as gas prices went up, and as demand went down, according to The Guardian report.

The part-time Uber driver for six years said that he spends anywhere from $35 to $75 a night to fill his tank when he drives.

Valdez added that many drivers are starting to "feel the pinch," saying that it is really expensive to put gas in.

U.S. Gas Prices

The U.S. is among the largest producer of crude oil and natural gas. However, it is also the largest consumer.

The United States produces over 18.6 million barrels a day while also using over 20.5 million.

Currently, the lowest national average gas price is in Houston at $3.14 per gallon, according to a NewsNation Now report.

De Haan also noted that airline tickets could increase aside from the rising gas prices. He added that consumers could see Uber, Lyft, and food delivery services tack on gas surcharges in the coming weeks.
