Horrific Discovery in Mexico: More Than 100 Dogs Found Dead in Toxic Landfill in Amecameca
More than 100 dogs were recently found dead in a lagoon of toxic liquid at a sanitary landfill in Amecameca town in Mexico City.
According to Periódico AM, the dogs were looking for water when they found the leachate lagoon and drank the liquid generated from the waste.
The dogs were able to reach the lagoon because the fences that protect the landfill were already in poor condition and were destroyed.
Dogs in Amecameca Landfill in Mexico Had Been Long Dead
Authorities believed that the dogs had been long dead because the carcasses fell apart when the municipal cleaning staff removed them. For this reason, the dogs were reportedly buried on the same property.
Authorities said the leachate, which is any contaminated liquid generated from water percolating through a solid waste disposal site, has been there since the last administration.
The city council reported that in the last 12 months, the waste disposal site did not receive the required care since the compacting machine used to handle the garbage and cover it with soil was broken, El Universal reported.
It added that four garbage trucks broke down during the first week of the current administration but were immediately repaired.
The new administration found that the deposited garbage in the landfill was in disorder, as an open dump without complying with the measures recommended by the Ministry of the Environment for a type C sanitary landfill.
"In the same way, the leachate generated from the garbage was only stored. So when the fence was destroyed, the dogs entered and went into the lagoon," the local government noted.

Horrific Dog Attack in Mexico Kills a Woman
A woman in Ajacuba town in Mexico's state of Hidalgo died after dogs attacked her on Wednesday afternoon. The Attorney General's Office of Hidalgo has initiated an investigation regarding the death of the woman, who was attacked by the dogs along Ignacio Allende street in the Santiago Tezontlale community, AM reported.
The Municipal Public Security has received a notice informing them about the discovery of a dead person who was allegedly attacked by dogs.
State authorities reportedly went to the site and processed the removal of the body. Municipal police confirmed that a woman, around 73-years-old, was found dead due to dog bites.
Around 60 people at the scene pointed to the dogs' owner, who was allegedly inside his home when the incident happened. It was still unclear how many dogs attacked the woman.
This scenario was similar to what happened to a boy in Australia last Christmas Eve. A dog attacked the 5-year-old boy while playing outside their house in Gold Coast city.
His grandmother and a neighbor tried to rescue the boy from the dog attack but were unsuccessful. Moments later, the paramedics arrived. The boy was rushed to a hospital, but he died hours later.
