We all knew "Fifty Shades of Grey" was popular, but it has made author E.L. James serious money.

The British author made £33.3 million from the start of 2013 to the end of September 2013 from royalty fees and licensing deals. In 2012, her company, Fifty Shades Ltd., earned £10.6 million. She earned a place on Britain's Richest Authors list, according to the Telegraph.

She has sold more than 100 million copies of the books since 2011, when the first book in the trilogy was released.

"The company had a very successful year, during which it secured royalty agreements with numerous international publishing houses and licensing agreements with other organizations," E.L. James said.

And she said Fifty Shades Ltd. has "income streams contracted to continue for a number of years."

J.K. Rowling had earned the top spot on the Britain's Richest Authors list as of January. She was worth more than half a billion pounds. She was followed by James Oliver at No. 2, Jacqueline Collins in third and James at No. 4. Kenneth Follet rounded out the top five.

The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, is still quite awhile from debuting. It won't hit theaters until Feb. 13.

Book readers both accepted and criticized news of the movie, since they have a very specific idea of what Grey should look like.

Small details from the movie already have been released.

Last week, the studio celebrated Christian Grey's birthday, which is June 18, by releasing a new picture of Grey.

Dornan, who played Sheriff Graham Humbert on "Once Upon a Time," took over for Charlie Hunnam, who couldn't commit because of scheduling conflicts.
