'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast, News & Updates: Tom Cruise Meets With Director JJ Abrams; Will He Make a Cameo?
Tom Cruise could make a cameo in highly anticipated upcoming movie "Star Wars: Episode VII," as he allegedly met up with director J.J. Abrams recently.
Cruise is close friends with Abrams, who also directed "Mission: Impossible III." The pair met over the weekend to discuss a role for the 51-year-old actor. "Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with J.J. and some other people from 'Star Wars' at the weekend," a source revealed to The Sun newspaper. "On Saturday evening, five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance."
"Losing Harrison is going to set things back a little scheduling-wise, [but] there's some time to play around with," the source added.
The discussion of Cruise's new potential role in the forthcoming epic space opera sequel comes after leading actor Harrison Ford, who is reprising his role as Han Solo from the original trilogy, was rushed into surgery last week following an accident on set. The 71-year-old star is recovering after breaking his leg and will not be able to resume production for several months.
Harrison's representative said in a statement: "Harrison Ford's left leg was broken in an accident. His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly. He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."
Tom Cruise recently starred in military sci-fi thriller "Edge of Tomorrow," which earned high praise. He is also set to film the fifth installment of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise.
In addition, Oscar-winning "12 Years a Slave" actress Lupita Nyong'o and "Game of Thrones" star Gwendoline Christie joined the recently announced cast of "Star Wars: Episode VII."
