SNAP benefits 2022 will have another round in Oregon, with officials announcing on Tuesday that most Oregonians who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits will also get emergency allotments in April.

SNAP recipients are set to receive additional support as the federal government has approved emergency allotments since March 2020, according to a KTVZ News report.

Around 399,000 SNAP households will receive approximately $65 million in extra food benefits in addition to their regular SNAP benefits.

Claire Seguin, deputy director of the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS), Self-Sufficiency Programs, said that they know many people rely on these additional emergency food benefits to have enough healthy food for themselves and their families.

Seguin added that they know that many Oregonians are still struggling to meet their basic needs and urged them to contact their partners at 211 and the Oregon Food Bank.

Current SNAP households will receive emergency allotments on April 12, while new SNAP households will receive emergency allotments on April 29 or May 3, according to Oregon Government site.

Meanwhile, the date for emergency allotments that will be issued in May 2022 is yet to be determined.

SNAP Benefits Oregon

Recipients must be a resident of Oregon to be eligible for SNAP Benefits.

In addition, they must meet one of the requirements, such as having a current bank balance under $2,001 or having a current bank balance under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over or a person with a disability.

In February, Jake Sunderland with the Oregon Department of Human Services said that about 386,000 SNAP households will receive about $62 million in extra food benefits.

Those who receive SNAP benefits will continue to receive increased benefits in March, according to a KLCC News report.

SNAP benefits are issued on an Electronic Benefits Transfer card, which is also called an Oregon Trail Card. It can be used as a debit card to buy anywhere EBT is accepted.

SNAP can buy any food for the household such as fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy products, bread, cereals, produce food for the household, and other non-alcoholic beverages.

However, households cannot use SNAP benefits to buy alcoholic beverages or tobacco, vitamins, medicines, supplements, live animals, and foods that are hot at the point of sale.

It cannot also be used for pet foods, cleaning supplies, other household supplies, hygiene items, and cosmetics.

Oregon has also introduced pandemic EBT as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is money used for buying food at home for students.

The state of Oregon provides P-EBT for families with eligible students. It aims to make up for meals students missed during the closure of schools and childcare facilities during 2020-2021.

The P-EBT program is deployed through the partnership of concerned agencies such as ODHS and the Oregon Department of Education.
