The approval rating of President Joe Biden has fallen to the lowest level of his presidency, according to the latest NBC News poll.

According to the poll, Biden's overall approval rating declined to 40 percent, with 55 percent of adults saying they disapprove of his job. NBC News reported that it marks the lowest point for the survey and a three-point decline from January.

In the January survey, 43 percent said they approved the president's job performance, with 54 percent saying they did not approve.

In the latest NBC News poll, seven in 10 Americans also expressed low confidence in Biden's ability to deal with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

On the other hand, eight out of 10 voiced concerns that the war will spike gas prices and possibly involve nuclear weapons.

The survey also found that Republicans have a two-point lead in answering which party should control Congress ahead of November's midterm elections.

Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinions Strategy said the poll suggests that Biden and Democrats "are headed for a catastrophic election."

McInturff conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates. The poll was conducted from March 18 to 22 before the president's Europe trip, where he met with NATO allies and U.S. troops and delivered a major speech about Russia's war.

Joe Biden Approval Rating in New Poll

Overall, the latest survey showed that 71 percent of Americans believed that the country is "off on the wrong track."

Some 62 percent said their family's income is "falling behind" the current cost of living, which respondents noted to be the most important issue facing the nation, Axios reported.

Sixty-three percent disapproved of the president's handling of the economy, with 51 percent disapproving of his management of foreign policy.

McInturff said the president could not go down to the low 40s in the presidential approval unless he has "strained" his own base.

Meanwhile, nearly 80 percent of Americans noted that they agree with Biden's decision to ban Russian oil imports despite meaning higher gas prices.

The poll surveyed 1,000 adults, with 790 being registered voters. It has a margin error of 3.1 percent among all respondents.

Joe Biden has seen his performance rating fall significantly since taking office in January 2021 after defeating former President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.

In a March 2021 poll by NBC News, Biden had a 53 percent approval rating by all Americans, with 51 percent being registered voters, CNBC News reported.

In the January 2021 survey, only 21 percent of Americans thought that the U.S. was heading in the right direction, with 73 percent saying it was on the wrong track.

Joe Biden Administration

The White House announced on Thursday a plan to resettle some who are fleeing their homes amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Joe Biden said on Twitter that the U.S. would welcome up to 100,000 Ukrainians and others fleeing Russia's invasion, according to Business Insider.

In addition, the United States would also provide more than $1 billion in humanitarian aid for people affected by the war. It includes funding medical supplies, food, water, and shelter.

But the Biden administration noted that it expected that many Ukrainian refugees would choose to remain in Europe so they could be "close to family and their homes in Ukraine."
