A new study has found that COVID-19 lockdowns in California, New York, and New Jersey have failed in their handling with its strict lockdowns and policies.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 lockdown in Florida was among the best-performing states in the country, according to a Fox News report.

The study has shown a huge contrast between liberal and conservative states when enforcing their respective COVID-19 lockdowns.

The Committee To Unleash Prosperity study made a comparison of state performance on standards including economy, education, mortality from the virus, and examined how states and their respective leaderships managed their pandemic response.

Steve Moore, co-founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, said that shutting down economies and schools was "by far the biggest mistake" governors and respective state officials made during COVID.

Moore especially cited blue states in regards to these policies.

The co-founder added that they hope the results of the study will prompt governors not to close schools and businesses the next time a lockdown is required due to the emergency of a new COVID-19 variant.

COVID-19 Lockdown: California

California Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency following the death on an elderly man in Placer County in early March 2020.

Health officials noted that the elderly man's death was caused by COVID-19, according to a Cal Matters timeline report.

Schools across the state had closed down less than two weeks later. California then entered the first of several stay-at-home mandates.

In July 2020, Newsom ordered businesses to close once again after the number of hospitalizations in the state had nearly doubled after a June 12 decree that some businesses could reopen.

Newsom said at the time that the virus is not going away anytime soon.

Newsom has announced on February 25 that he has now ended the huge majority of his executive orders regarding COVID-19.

COVID-19 Lockdown: New York

A day after former U.S. President Donald Trump declared a national emergency, New York announced its first two COVID-19 deaths in the state.

Two days after, New York City public schools closed, followed by the closure of bars and restaurants closure, except for delivery, according to an Investopedia timeline report.

On Mar. 28, 2020, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has stopped all nonessential construction sites in New York.

The state has started its Phase 1 reopening on Jun. 8, 2020, and on Jun. 22, 2020 it started its Phase 2 of reopening.

By Sept. 29, 2020, all elementary students were allowed to return to public school classrooms.

COVID-19 Lockdown: New Jersey

An Englewood woman became the second New Jerseyan to have tested positive for COVID-19. She was treated at Englewood Health and sent home to self-quarantine.

On Mar.9, 2020 New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy declares a state of emergency after the statewide COVID-19 cases had reached 11, according to a North Jersey News report.

The state of emergency allowed the state government to deploy resources more quickly by waiving a number of bureaucratic requirements such as the bidding process for medical supplies.

Murphy noted at the time that the declaration was needed to ensure that "local health agencies on the front lines of the state's response" are properly equipped with the resources they need.
