Mexico: 5 Bodies, Some Beheaded, Found Inside a Taxi in Guerrero State Plagued by Mexican Drug Cartels
Five bodies of men were found inside a taxi in the municipality of Juchitan in Mexico's state of Guerrero on Tuesday.
According to Diario de Mexico, three bodies were decapitated or beheaded, while the remaining two were shot to death. Mexican authorities have yet to identify the victims, but Borderland Beat reported that the bodies were already transferred to the facilities of the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
According to reports, the state police received information about a vehicle with an undetermined number of bodies on a road in Las Cuchillas town, near the federal highway, Tuesday morning.
In the afternoon, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) confirmed the discovery of the five bodies, adding that it opened an investigation folder for the homicide of five people.
The bodies were reportedly found inside a white public service vehicle with blue stripes on the Marquelia-Acapulco route.
There was no immediate information on a possible motive and who was responsible for the killings. But the state government vowed to strengthen security in Guerrero to guarantee the safety of the people.
6 Human Heads Found on Car Roof in Guerrero, Mexico
Last March 31, six human heads and some dismembered bodies were found on a parked car in the municipality of Chilapa de Alvarez in Guerrero.
The human heads were found on the roof of a black Volkswagen Pointer with license plates HCX7649 stationed along Eucaria Apreza Boulevard.
Authorities also discovered eight black plastic bags with dismembered human remains inside the vehicle. Along with the heads and bags, a large poster with an intimidating message was posted beside the car.
Authorities believed that the murdered individuals were victims of drug gang-related violence because of the message written on the canvas that gave a warning against kidnapping and drug selling.
Authorities have not immediately identified the six individuals, but their remains have also been sent to the Semefo.
Mexico's State of Guerrero Plagued by Mexican Drug Cartels
Mexico's state of Guerrero is reportedly plagued by Mexican drug cartels dedicated to drug trafficking and extortion. The Independent Cartel of Acapulco is one of the drug cartels operating in Guerrero, particularly in the city of Acapulco.
The said cartel is reportedly fighting the Jalisco cartel for control of the Port of Acapulco and other points in the state. Acapulco is known as a key entryway for South American cocaine, making the city an attractive piece of real estate for drug cartels.
According to Borderland Beat, Guerrero has been hit by organized crime groups in recent years, and in 2021, the state experienced a strong wave of violence.
During the first two months of 2022, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System reported that Guerrero recorded 201 intentional homicides, of which 64 were registered in Acapulco.
