Peru's former president, Alberto Fujimori, on Sunday went to a hospital, marking the trip to the medical healthcare facility his second one in just a month.

According to AFP, prison authorities confirmed the news through a statement from the National Penitentiary Institute, per Al Jazeera.

Authorities noted that Fujimori was rushed to the hospital on Sunday as he suffered a drop in blood pressure as well as an irregular heartbeat. Fujimori's condition was stabilized at the health care facility.

Officials did not mention where Fujimori was admitted. However, they noted that the imprisoned former president was then moved to a medical clinic for continued monitoring.

It was unclear when Fujimori will return to his cell. It can be recalled that Peru's former president is serving his 25-year prison sentence over mass massacres committed by army death squads during his tenure from 1990 to 2000.

Al Jazeera noted that Fujimori has served at least 15 years of his overall sentence.

Authorities did not specify his first hospital admission this month.

Peru Ex-Pres. Alberto Fujimori Hospital History

Fujimori's latest health scare came after he was admitted in early March due to heart problems.

Fujimori's daughter, Keiko Fujimori, then announced that his father was discharged from the healthcare facility on March 15.

"My father was discharged today from the Centenario Clinic to continue his treatment in the Barbadillo prison. On the day he was taken to the El Golf Clinic for analysis of the progress of his pulmonary fibrosis," Keiko Fujimori said in a Tweet.

Fujimori's daughter furthered that his father went under strict medical observation for his fibrosis and atrial fibrillation.

"On behalf of my brothers, I thank you for your concern and we ask for your prayers for his speedy recovery," Keiko added.

According to AFP, Fujimori's doctor claimed that his first hospital admission in March was connected to the operation the former president underwent five months ago, per Wion.

In October, Keiko Fujimori also claimed that the heart problem of her father has worsened, according to CNN.

Fujimori noted that she and her father also gave their consent for the other types of measures to be done in connection to the former president's health.

Meanwhile, Alberto Fujimori's lawyer, Cesar Nakazaki, also said during that time that his client was hospitalized over oxygen saturation issues.

Peru's Ex-Pres. Alberto Fujimori Release

Fujimori's latest hospital admission came after Peru's constitutional court restored the humanitarian pardon that was granted to him in 2017. However, the move was slammed by different entities and organizations.

Experts from United Nations said that the decision of Peru's constitutional court is inconsistent with international human rights standards.

Peru's Judge Miluska Cano from the Fourth Criminal Chamber banned the former president from leaving the country for at least 18 months following his release.

Most recently, Special Prosecutor Carlos Reaño confirmed to the Associated Press that officials would keep former President Alberto Fujimori in detention over the regional court's request.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights also requested the Peruvian authorities not to release Fujimori.
