Former Miami Hurricanes and St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders star Sam Bruce tragically died following a car accident in Florida.

According to TMZ Sports, the death of the 24-year-old wide receiver was confirmed by his former high school on Thursday. In a Facebook post, officials of the St. Thomas Aquinas football team wrote: "R.I.P. Sam Bruce ! We Will Miss You and We Love You !" They also posted two photos of Bruce. 

TMZ Sports reported that Bruce's death came after getting involved in a car crash in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at around 8:23 p.m. on Wednesday.

A spokesperson from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department said medics arrived at the car crash scene and performed CPR on the former Miami Hurricanes player before he was taken to a nearby hospital. However, he died at the hospital on Thursday morning.

The police spokesperson noted that Bruce suffered from a seizure. Authorities have not yet released further details into the accident, including whether Bruce was the driver or a passenger when the car crash occurred.

"At this time... the circumstances surrounding this incident are not suspicious and foul play is not suspected," the police spokesperson noted.

Bruce's former high school, St. Thomas Aquinas, said it spoke with the wide receiver's family, and "they ask you to pray for their family during this time."

Football World Reacts on the Death of University of Miami Hurricanes Player Sam Bruce

The football world reacted to the death of the former Miami Hurricanes and St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders player. St. Thomas Aquinas player Drew White replied to a tweet from a fan who claimed that Sam Bruce was his inspiration.

"I can't believe this. Sam Bruce will forever have a legacy in South Florida," White said.

NFL wide receiver Johnnie Dixon tweeted that Bruce was one of the best he has ever seen.

Former NFL player Chad Johnson also expressed his sadness over Bruce's death by tweeting the football star's name with a broken heart emoji.

Bruce's family has yet to issue an official statement after the car crash. His former team, the Miami Hurricanes, has yet to comment too about his death.

Who is Ex-Miami Hurricanes Player Sam Bruce?

Citing rankings from 247Sports.com, the Miami Herald reported that Sam Bruce was known to be a top-100 recruit in St. Thomas Aquinas.

Bruce signed with the Hurricanes during the class of 2016. However, he was never given a chance to play for the team and was dismissed from the squad as a freshman for violating team rules. Bruce went on to attend Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. and Southeastern University before playing for the Indoor Football League.  

According to The Spun, Bruce ranked as the eleventh wide receiver and the 82nd player in 2016. During his stay with St. Thomas Aquinas, Bruce won back-to-back state titles in 2014 and 2015, with a record of 66 catches for 847 yards and 11 touchdowns in those two seasons.

Sam Bruce also had a record of running 29 times for 190 yards and three touchdowns.
