At least 10 people were shot, leaving two people dead, after gunfire erupted outside an apartment building in Miami early Tuesday morning, reports The Chicago Tribune.

According to the Miami Police Department, between 50 and 60 shots were fired inside of a courtyard-like area outside the building in Liberty City around 2:30 a.m. EDT.

One of the victims, identified by family members as 30-year-old Kevin Richardson, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, identified as 26-year-old Nakiel Jackson, died after being transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, NBC Miami reports.

"Someone knocked on the door, he opened the door and they shot him," said Jackson's aunt, Felicia Mans.

"It's a sad situation," said Miami Police Chief Manuel Orosa. "We've never had any calls, any problems in this apartment building."

At least five of the victims were rushed to Jackson Memorial, while one was stable and three were in serious condition, said Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll.

"We also had one adult male who was in extremely critical condition, was unresponsive, and paramedics performed CPR all the way here to the hospital," Carroll said. It was reported that that victim was Nakiel Jackson.

One woman said her 17-year-old sister was rushed to the hospital and she was shot at the scene. Chief Orosa said the teenager was "very critical."

Carroll described the scene as "chaotic" and said that several paramedics were on the scene.

Police have yet to find a motive in the senseless shooting.

"At this point, we're not going to speculate as to what happened on the scene. The investigators have been here since 2 a.m. and we're going to give them their chance to do what they need to do to find out why this occurred," said Miami Police spokeswoman Frederica Burden said.

"If someone's seen anything, I wish you guys [would] come forward. He was somebody's son, he was somebody's father," said Bennae Robinson, Richardson's aunt.
