Travis Scott Faces New Lawsuit From Woman Who Lost Her Unborn Child After Astroworld Festival Tragedy
Travis Scott is facing a new lawsuit from a woman who claimed she had lost her unborn child following the Astroworld Festival tragedy last year.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Shanazia Williamson and her husband Jarawd Owens from Dayton, Ohio filed a wrongful death lawsuit at Harris County in Houston, Texas. Williamson claimed that she was among the people "trampled and crushed" at the music festival, which took place at NRG Park in Houston on November 5.
The woman noted that she suffered "horrific injuries" that resulted in a miscarriage, losing her and Owens' unborn child, Daily Mail reported.
"Defendants' failure to plan, design, manage, operate, staff, and supervise the event was a direct and proximate cause of Shanazia's injuries and death of her and Jarawd's unborn child," the lawsuit stated.
It added that the defendants did not provide enough security or medical personnel and failed to recognize the hazards of the event's setup.
Aside from the "Goosebumps" rapper, Williamson also sued, among others, Live Nation Entertainment and the operators behind NRG Park. The then-pregnant woman is asking for over $1 million in damages.
Travis Scott Faces Several Lawsuits After Astroworld Festival Tragedy
Following the Astroworld Festival tragedy that killed at least 10 concertgoers, Travis Scott faced several lawsuits, including a $2 billion case filed by Texas trial attorney Thomas Henry on behalf of the 280 victims of the fatal event.
Attorney Tony Buzbee also filed a $750 million lawsuit on behalf of 120 victims of the Astroworld Festival tragedy. The suit blamed Travis and the concert organizers for negligence in failing to plan the concert properly, train its security personnel, and present a safe event for the fans.
Ben Crump, a lawyer representing George Floyd and Trayvon Martin, also introduced a lawsuit on behalf of more than 90 people who attended Travis Scott's concert last year.
"This lawsuit is not just about getting justice for them, but it's about making sure the promoters and the organizers know that you cannot allow this to ever happen in the future, even if you have to immediately stop the concert," Crump noted.
Officials described the music festival it as a "chaotic event." A medical examiner has determined that all 10 people killed at the event died of "compression asphyxia," and the manner was ruled to be an accident. More than 4,900 people reported injuries sustained at the concert.
Diddy Wants Travis Scott to Perform on Billboard Music Awards After Astroworld Festival Tragedy
Rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs said he wanted Travis Scott to perform in the 2022 Billboard Music Awards even after the Astroworld Festival tragedy.
"I'm uncanceling the canceled," Diddy said, referring to the backlash against Scott, Complex reported.
"I'm executive producing... he has to perform. And NBC said 'yes.' It's going down Sunday, Travis Scott will be performing... now that's love," he added.
Diddy is known to have faced a tragedy similar to Astroworld. In 1991, Diddy and Heavy D were co-sponsoring a celebrity basketball game and concert at the City College of New York when an overflow of people inside the gymnasium caused people to be trampled.
Nine people died, and 29 more were seriously injured in the tragic incident.
