Los Angeles Brush Fire
The Los Angeles Brush Fire erupted around 2:45 in the afternoon, local time, on Tuesday, according to New York Post.
Deadline mentioned that the fire broke out along the North Nottingham Avenue on a hill just south of the observatory in Griffith Park.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that initially, the brush fire was roughly a 100-by-50 foot spot blaze. However, the fire quickly grew to about four acres.
Videos from the scene showed flames and smoke rising near the Griffith Observatory, a building that was built in 1993.
Although smoke covered an area of Griffith Park, reports claimed that flames did not appear to reach the landmark or nearby the Greek theater.
Another video from Fire Captain II Erik Scott showed that helicopters continued to hover around the area of the brush fire, while firefighters continue to extinguish the leftover blaze.
The fire's proximity to the observatory as well as the thickness of the brush, the Los Angeles Fire Department classified the blaze as a "major emergency." The department also dispatched more than a dozen engines with air support.
Reports noted that two water-dumping helicopters were deployed to put out hotspots.
The fire department also noted in a statement that the Griffith observatory was evacuated in the aftermath of the brush fire.
The department noted that park rangers assisted with public safety by keeping hikers from entering the nearby trails affected by the brush fire.
No injuries were reported during the blaze.
