President Joe Biden made his first in-studio appearance on the late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Wednesday, discussing Donald Trump and gun-control plans.

According to The Washington Post, Kimmel asked the president why gun violence still persists in the United States, citing that there have been two dozen school shootings this year alone.

Biden then referred to the National Rifle Association, saying that a lot of it is intimidation by the group. He noted that it was the reason why there had not been a movement on federal gun legislation.

At one point, the president turned to the studio audience and urged them to make gun control a voting issue, saying it got to be one of those matters wherein voters decide their position on the issue of senator or candidate for House or Senate.

Joe Biden also implied during his appearance that the White House has not been able to communicate its message in a way that pierces through due to the change in the media landscape wherein reporters "have to get the clicks on the nightly news."

According to Deadline, the president said that "everything gets sensationalized in ways." Biden has not signed an executive order to try to stop the gun violence that America has been seeing.

Jimmy Kimmel pressed Biden on why the administration has not accomplished more. The president noted that he had not issued more executive orders, including on guns, because he did not want "to emulate Trump's abuse of the Constitution and constitutional authority."

Kimmel said Democrats won the House, the Senate, and the White House and still have "made very little progress" regarding on guns, reproductive rights, voting rights, and climate change. The TV show host is known to be a Democratic Party donor who contributed to Biden's 2020 campaign.

Biden then argued that his administration made limited progress on climate and admitted that he was looking at executive orders he could issue if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. But the president also suggested that any new abortion restrictions could only be reversed at the ballot box.

Biden said he often gets asked why they "play it square." He answered by saying if they don't play it square, just like Republicans, "our democracy will literally be in jeopardy."

Biden's interview with Kimmel was booked despite the president not giving a reporter an on-the-record sit-down interview for months.

Jimmy Kimmel insisted that Democrats need to fight harder to get legislation passed, adding that the president needs to "start yelling at people," according to Vanity Fair.

Biden last appeared on the show in 2019. However, it was his first in-studio appearance since becoming a president.

In December, the president visited Jimmy Fallon's "Tonight Show," but the guest did not have as much impact as it was virtual.

Joe Biden likely will return to the format again, unlike Donald Trump, who slammed late-night hosts during his presidency.
