Floyd Mayweather Bags International Boxing Hall of Fame
Floyd Mayweather could not hold back his tears while speaking at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
"I said that I wouldn't cry. This is unbelievable. This is one of the best days of my life," Mayweather said. The former boxer then thanked his father, who introduced him to the sport.
"I love my dad because without him this wouldn't be possible for me," Mayweather noted.
Mayweather retired from the boxing ring in 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor to register an impressive 50-0 record, surpassing Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record. His other notable wins were his matches with Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya, and Canelo Alvarez.
After retiring from the sport, Floyd Mayweather also participated in exhibition bouts. His most recent one happened in Abu Dhabi, where he fought his former sparring partner, Dan Moore. He has also faced YouTuber Logan Paul.
Floyd Mayweather to Come Back on Boxing Ring; Manny Pacquiao Possible Opponent
This year, Floyd Mayweather will return to the boxing ring in another exhibition fight. Boxing Scene reported that Mayweather would hold a press conference on Monday in Las Vegas to officially announce his next fight.
The said bout will be held under the Rizin promotional banner in Japan, and reports noted that the match could happen in December.
It was not the first time Mayweather fought under the Rizen promotional banner. Back in December 2018, Mayweather traveled to Japan, under Rizen, to fight kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa. He blew him away in one round at that time.
Mayweather's opponent in his upcoming fight under the Japanese promotion has yet to be confirmed. However, the camp of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao expressed an interest in fighting the "Money" once again.
MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons confirmed to Planet Sport that the Filipino boxer would love to face Mayweather in an exhibition match this year.
"Let's go... Senator Pacquiao would love an exhibition (against Mayweather). If he was to return it would be this year - But that is a big if," Gibbon noted.
Pacquiao retired from boxing last summer following a defeat to Yordenis Ugas. The 43-year-old quit the sport to focus on his political career. However, he lost his bid to become the president of the Philippines this year.
Floyd Mayweather has yet to comment if he will fight Manny Pacquiao in his upcoming fight.
