FDA Probes Death of Another Baby After Consuming an Abbott Milk
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Wednesday announced that they are investigating another case of a baby's death after consuming an infant formula from Abbott made in one of their laboratories.
Officials from the FDA said that the probe has been launched into the circumstances of a baby that died in January, Independent reported.
The agency pointed out that they were notified about the death of the baby on June 10, and they have since launched an investigation in connection to the issue.
A spokesperson from Abbott told the Daily Mail that they received "limited product and clinical information" to evaluate the case. The spokesperson furthered that at this time, there are "no conclusions and evidence" that suggest a causal relationship between the death of Abbott products and the recently reported death of the baby.
Reports also claimed that the latest report of a baby's death is in its preliminary stages. FDA said that it would provide an update regarding the investigation once it has learned more about the issue.

Other Baby Deaths Reported After Consuming Abbott Milk
There had been nine other reported deaths on babies that occurred after consuming Abbott Milk prior to the recent case reported to the FDA.
Business Insider noted that the nine cases of baby deaths were from a filing obtained by the eFoodAlert under the Freedom of Information Act. The said nine cases were among the 128 consumer complaints the FDA received between December 2021 to March 3, 2022.
The symptoms found among the cases reported were consistent with those found in a gastrointestinal infection. Thirty-one babies were stricken with fever, 47 had diarrhea, and six had blood in their stool. Most of the babies reportedly suffered from multiple symptoms.
Meanwhile, 25 other instances mentioned in the report were categorized as "Life-Threatening Illness/Injury.
The infant was not identified by name. Instead, serial numbers were used.
Two Cases of Reported Deaths of Babies to FDA Were Connected to Michigan Plant Probe
Two of the baby deaths reported to the FDA were included in the agency's investigation of Abbott's Sturgis, Michigan plant.
In February, Abbott initiated a recall on several of its products and closed its Michigan plant after reports of serious bacterial infection in four infants, including two who died.
The company sustained its claims that there is no evidence to link its formula to the illnesses or deaths of the babies.
The closure of Abbott's Michigan plant worsened a shortage in infant formulas, prompting the Biden administration to impose the Defense Production Act, which allowed the government to have more control over industrial production.
The FDA previously gave a go-signal to the company's Michigan plant to reopen. The said plant is known to be the largest factory of infant formula in the United States. However, the Michigan plant shuttered again due to the damages to the facility it sustained from severe thunderstorms and heavy rains.
