Georgia Files Subpoena for Rudy Giuliani and Lindsey Graham in Trump Election Probe
The state of Georgia is investigating the actions of former President Donald Trump and his allies following the 2020 presidential elections. A prosecutor for the state has filed a subpoena for South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham and former New York City mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, as well as other Trump campaign team members.
The subpoena will make them testify before a special grand jury to speak about Trump's attempt to overturn the election results in the state.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis filed the petitions on Tuesday. She alleged that it was a multi-state plan coordinated by the Trump campaign to influence the election results not only in Georgia but also in other states.
Willis also subpoenaed other Trump campaign officials John Eastman, Kenneth Chesebro, Jenna Ellis, and Cleta Mitchell. According to Bloomberg News, a subpoena was also filed for podcaster Jacki Pick Deason, who vocally supported Trump in his efforts to change the election results in Georgia.

Subpoenas Target Donald Trump's Closest Allies
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has already given his testimony to Willis, with Georgia Governor Brian Kemp scheduled to testify later this month. It is known that Trump contacted both state officials to urge them to find him more votes to change the election results. Both famously declined Trump and chose to go with the law and not give him the votes he wanted.
While Willis was expected to hear from Georgia officials, she is now targeting those closest to the former president. One of the main targets is Giuliani, who presented claims of fraud before the Georgia state legislature in December 2020. He played an edited video of Fulton County election workers pulling suitcases of supposedly illegitimate ballots from under a table.
The other main target is Linsey Graham, who called Raffensperger on Nov. 13, 2020. According to Raffensperger's autobiography "Integrity Counts," Graham called him to express concern about absentee ballots, and that some counties have approved ballot signatures that "should have been marked invalid."
John Eastman, another high-value target for the prosecution, became famous when it came out that he was the Trump lawyer responsible for suggesting that Mike Pence should be the one to overturn the election results on Jan. 6, 2021. Another Trump lawyer, Mitchell, also participated in Trump's phone call with Raffensperger on Jan. 2, 2021, where the former president urged him to find 11,780 votes.
Special Grand Jury Specifically Looking Into Trump Actions in Georgia, Separate From January 6 Hearings
The special grand jury to hear the case is happening as the United States Congress is also hearing about Trump's efforts to overturn the election results, leading up to the events of the January 6 Capitol Insurrection. While it is a separate hearing, both cases are intertwined in the former president's efforts to remain in power.
While the January 6 hearings look at the national scope of Trump's efforts to overturn the election results, the Georgia special grand jury takes a specific look at the actions of Trump and his campaign's efforts in Georgia.
According to the Associated Press, Willis took the unusual step of requesting a special grand jury for the case. The Fulton County D.A. said that she is probing Trump's call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, the November 2020 call between Graham and Raffensperger, and the comments Giuliani made during December 2020 Georgia legislative committee hearings on the elections.
Yahoo! News reports that the grand jury first started convening in May earlier this year. It will determine whether Trump and his campaign staff broke any laws and whether or not criminal charges should be filed against them.
