A Louisiana toddler was found dead inside a duffel bag that had been dumped in a trash can on Tuesday after he was reported missing.

According to Crime Online, the two-year-old's mother and her live-in boyfriend are currently facing murder charges in connection to the boy's death.

Ezekiel Harry was reported missing around noon on Tuesday. Houma police said they received a call that the Louisiana toddler may have been abducted after the missing person was reported.

Police contacted Harry's mother, and she claimed that she had been out walking with her kids when someone in a gray truck grabbed the boy and sped off.

However, police investigators said the mother's story was "inaccurate" when compared to intel received by law enforcement.

Terrebonne Parish District Attorney Joseph Waitz Jr. noted that the toddler had been the subject of abuse, and they were aware of abusive patterns in the past involving Harry.

Louisiana Toddler Found Dead in Trash Can

On Wednesday, Houma police released still images from surveillance video showing Ezekiel Harry's mom, Maya Jones, 28, and her 37-year-old boyfriend, Jermaine Robinson, leaving their home and carrying what appeared to be the same duffel bag.

WGNO reported that a photo also showed the pair returned to their home at around 5 a.m. without the black duffel. After police found Harry's body on Daspit Street at about 6 p.m., they arrested the couple.

According to WDSU, the pair is currently facing charges of first-degree murder. Houma police said officers found several inconsistencies in Jones' story about the boy's abduction.

Police said Jones was "thoroughly interviewed," and "numerous inconsistencies" were discovered in her story. Authorities noted that officers immediately started the search for the missing child as foul play was suspected.

Waitz said he expected grand jury indictments on first-degree murder charges for both Jones and Robinson. He noted that prosecutors were eyeing seeking the death penalty in the case.

However, he said he would discuss with the family their desires before making that decision. The Louisiana toddler's cause of death has not been released. However, police noted that physical abuse could be a factor in the boy's death.

Louisiana Toddler's Death Investigation

Apart from first-degree murder, Maya Jones and her boyfriend are also charged with evidence tampering. According to jail records, the Louisiana toddler's mom is being held without bond in the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

KIRO 7 reported that Ezekiel Harry's three older siblings were placed in the custody of their father, Trey Watkins, who pleaded online for help finding his missing son on Tuesday.

Police said it was during the questioning that one of the suspects gave investigators information that led to finding the Louisiana toddler's body.
