Shasta County Fire Prompts Evacuation

A brush fire near a city in Shasta County in California erupted on Thursday, prompting evacuations to different areas near Redding.

According to Los Angeles Times, the brush fire on Thursday was named Peter Fire.

Cal Fire noted that the said brush fire has burned 200 acres and is still 0% contained.

As of 4:57 P.M., the Shasta County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation orders due to the Peter Fire, per KRCR. Evacuation Orders were issued for La Colina Terrace at Beacon Dr., Streets between Peter Pan Gulch to Twyla, Peter Pan Gulch at Olinda Road, 3rd Street at SR-273, All Roads West of SR-273, and NW to Anna Road and Spring Gulch Road.

KCRA noted that when an evacuation order is issued, there is an immediate threat to livelihood. However, the outlet pointed out that the evacuation order does not mean a mandatory evacuation of the area. Instead, it recommends people be ready to leave at a moment's notice.

However, as of 6:20 p.m., the 3rd street at Highway 273, including all roads west of the highway to the northwest was subjected to mandatory evacuations. The Sheriff's office also noted that Anna and Spring Gulch Roads were also subjected to the same level of evacuations.

The American Red Cross opened an evacuation at West Valley High School, located at 3805 Happy Valley Road in Cottonwood.

Meanwhile, a large animal and a livestock evacuation center were made available at the Redding Rodeo Grounds. The said evacuation center for animals is located at 715 Auditorium Drive in Redding, California.

Other Effects of Shasta County Fire

Evacuations were not the only aftermath of the Shasta County Fire in California. According to The Sun, the Peter Fire has also burned multiple structures in its trail.

Cal Fire Spokesperson Cheryl Buliavac confirmed and echoed that there were structures destroyed by the Shasta County Fire. However, the spokesperson did not mention the total number of structures destroyed by the said fire.

In addition, a dispatcher from Cal Fire underscored that Peter Fire is threatening additional structures.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) has also cut the power to nearly 1,800 residences due to the threat of the Shasta County Fire.

Shasta County Fire: Peter Fire

The Shasta County Fire, also known as Peter Fire, started at the Peter Pan Gulch Road and Olinda Road in Anderson.

The city of Anderson is located 10 miles south of Redding and 138 miles north of Sacramento. The said city is known to be home to over 11,000 people.

Fire crews first responded to the fire on Thursday afternoon, and authorities are utilizing and implementing air resourcing to contain the blaze.

Peter Fire was initially reported to burn 15 acres, but it grew to 200 acres on Thursday afternoon.

There were no reports of casualties in connection to the Shasta County Fire.
