Steph Curry ‘Nervous’ About Hosting ESPYS, Asked Drake for Advice
Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry will be stepping into unfamiliar territory, as he takes on the hosting duties for the ESPYS. The current Finals MVP had been quiet and reserved throughout his career, letting teammate Draymond Green handle all of the trash talking for him.
Now, however, he will finally be letting out some trash talk as he prepares not only to host the sporting awards but also to do his own monologue.
The ESPYS will air via ABC in the United States at 5:00 p.m. PST. There, Curry will be showcasing his hosting chops in an awards show for the very first time in his career. However, as the Associated Press notes, he will be in unfamiliar territory as he might be going after rivals, teammates, and other sports personalities during his monologue on Wednesday.
Steph Curry Asked Drake for Advice
Steph Curry is not known for his talking skills, letting his skill on the court speak for him most of the time. However, hosting an awards show is a completely different ball game, and admitted that he is nervous. This is why the basketball star sought the help of an A-list celebrity. Enter Drake.
Drake and Curry are good friends, so he asked the rapper what a hosting gig is like. Drake hosted the awards show in 2014, and he is certainly no stranger to speaking in front of a crowd.
According to People Magazine, Curry also sought the help of Legendary NFL quarterback and former ESPYS and Saturday Night Live host Payton Manning. The two were former golf partners in 2020.
While this is the basketball star's first time hosting an awards show, this won't be his first TV hosting gig at all. As NBC News pointed out, he and his wife, Ayesha Curry, co-hosted the HBO max game show "About Last Night." He also produces ABC's golf competition "Holey Moley," and made an appearance in the show.

Steph Curry Says Sports Personalities Should Be Nervous With What He Has To Say
While trash talking and making fun of other people as host is not Stephen Curry's strong suit, the Golden State Warriors guard teased people about his opening monologue.
He said that while people would not be as nervous if Draymond Green was the host, but he said that people should still be nervous. He added, "Now I have the mic."
The ESPYS is considered the sporting equivalent of the Oscars and the Grammy Awards. It celebrates the top athletes and moments over the past year. This year, Steph Curry is not only hosting but is also nominated for three awards. These are the best men's athlete, the best record-breaking performance, and the best NBA player. The Golden State Warriors are also nominated for best team.
The ESPYS will return at full capacity for the first time in three years, due to the lifting of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. It went virtual during the pandemic period. ABC will air it live on Wednesday from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
