KFC 3-Year-Old Girl Viral Story Is a Hoax: Family Collected $135,000 But Restaurant Finds No Video of Incident
The tragic story of a 3-year-old girl whose face was severely disfigured being allegedly asked to leave a KFC restaurant by the workers because she scared the customers may actually turn out to be a hoax. A video of the purported incident went viral on the internet several weeks ago, causing outrage among netizens for the restaurant employee's seemingly harsh treatment towards the little girl.
Victoria Wilcher, who is 3 years old, was attacked by three pit bulls owned by her family, causing her to lose her right eye in addition to scarring other parts of her face. Her family has put up a Facebook page recounting the vicious April pit bull attack while documenting their child's recovery. The KFC incident, which has yet to be confirmed, allegedly happened in May when Victoria and her grandmother Kelly Mullins went to a branch in Jacksonville, Mississippi where they were asked to leave because of the child's appearance.
As the story went viral online, the family was reportedly able to collect an amount of money in excess of $135,000 through donations alone. However, a Mississippi newspaper, The Laurel Leader-Call, reports that the restaurant chain has reviewed its surveillance video to find out that there was no such incident that took place. According to them, they did not see any child resembling Victoria at any restaurant in Jacksonville on that given date. Furthermore, KFC did their own investigation and did not find records of the order Mullins claims to have placed.
Rick Maynard, a KFC spokesperson gave a statement on behalf of the restaurant chain's parent company, Yum! Brands: "Like the rest of America, the KFC family has been moved by the story of Victoria's injuries and recovery. After the alleged incident was reported to us, two investigations took place, including one by an independent investigator. Neither revealed any evidence that the incident occurred and we consider the investigation closed. We are honoring our commitment to make a $30,000 donation to assist with Victoria's medical bills. We hope everyone keeps Victoria in their thoughts and prayers. She will certainly be in ours."
