For the first time since leaving office, Donald Trump has returned to Washington D.C. for a speech during a summit by the America First Policy Institute. The summit featured not only Trump but also several other officials from his administration.

In his speech, the controversial former president, who is currently being investigated for his actions during the January 6 Capitol insurrection, as well as election tampering in Georgia, talked about rising crime rates in America. He also called for "very, very severe" penalties.

The speech came on the same day as his former vice president Mike Pence made an address to the Young America Foundation's National Conservative Student Conference. It also came just a few days after the latest hearing on the events of January 6, 2021.

Donald Trump Praises Brutal Practices by Chinese Regime

In his speech, he said that countries with a "very quick trial death penalty sentence" do not have many problems when it comes to drug problems. According to The Independent, he did acknowledge that it sounded horrible to carry out swift executions but said it was better than having someone on death row for several years before execution.

"You execute a drug dealer and you save 500 lives," he said in that speech.

He then praised Xi Jinping and China for their quick actions on drug dealers and executing them. In his speech, Trump claimed to have called Chinese President Xi Jinping and asked him if he had a drug problem. Trump claimed that the Chinese leader told him that their country does not and that they execute anybody caught selling drugs there.

Donald Trump Says He Wants More Protections for Police

The Hill reported that Trump painted a dystopian future with his speech. The former president said that he wanted police cars to be parked on every corner and have laws passed that give police more authority and strengthen their qualified immunity.

This comes as police are getting more scrutiny for either not doing anything during an attack, such as Uvalde, or getting away with no repercussions whenever they kill an unarmed black man. He then claimed that the left's anti-police narrative is a "Big Lie," even if studies show that police disproportionally shoot more unarmed people of color, mostly African Americans, and also Latinos.

Trump claimed that police officers were heroes in his speech. However, Vanity Fair pointed out the irony in this, as Donald Trump incited his followers to attack police officers tasked with defending the Capitol during the events of the January 6 Capitol Insurrection. The pro-Trump riot which culminated in Trump supporters temporarily taking over the Capitol led to over 100 police officers getting injured, with 3 officers dead.

Among the other highlights of his speech include suggesting that homeless camps be transferred to "large parcels of inexpensive land at the outer reaches of the city." He then added that in these homeless encampments, there should also be tents with medical professionals.
